Accountable in what sense? Charges have been brought and trials will go forward. Not one Republican in either chamber of Congress endorsed the "insurrection" cum riot.
Given the nature of the American legal system, it is hard to see what else could be done. Should they all go to jail or be hung or whatever absent the legal procedures afforded to all criminals.
It is also worth adding that even the Biden Justice Department has not charged anyone with treason, thereby making the use of the word "insurrection" problematic. The most common charges filed being trespass and disturbing the peace. Indeed, the only death directly attributable to the "insurrection" was of a female Trump supporter by a Capitol police officer - and no charges were filed.
In 1954, a group of Puerto Rican nationalists entered the House chamber and sprayed it with bullets, wounding 6 House Members, one quite seriously. Even this was not charged as an insurrection, notwithstanding that it had an express political purpose, was organized in advance, and none of the shooters was wearing a fur hat with animal horns.
Suffice to say, the standard of "holding accountable" is too vague to make it legally actionable. Even the proposed study commission that is such a bone of contention at the moment would not "hold the insurrectionists accountable," but would rather trace the chronology of events and attempt to answer questions.
(As an aside, speaking as a denizen of the Hill myself, one question I would like to see answered is why the Capitol police deployed such a minimal force. I have been in DC since 1988 and normally if there is so much as an Easter parade the Capitol police are deployed in massive and obvious force. This time not.)
At any rate, the question is too vague to be answerable. To repeat, you will search in vain for a "Repub" who supported the "insurrectionists" and endorsed their actions. The proposed commission is not designed to hold anyone "accountable" and even the Biden Justice Department has not charged anyone with treason, which would be the classic charge in the case of an insurrection.
Put it all together and it might be equally asked why the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats are not holding "insurrectionists" accountable. Most of what they have offered is "sound and fury signifying nothing" Which is pretty standard given the populist nature of the country's current political culture. It being less about pursuing justice and due process than it is about catharsis.
The idea that federal prosecutors are letting a crime committed by Trump supporters go unpunished seems very unlikely. The likely explanation is that prosecutors aren’t prosecuting it because it’s figurative and therefore protected political speech (much like burning the US flag is). After all, they have spared no effort in prosecuting those who trespassed into the Capitol even though the Capitol Police were seen on Video inviting some protestors in. Another thing to consider is that a number of things that were reported about what went on at the Capitol on Jan.6th have been proven to be inaccurate, so I wouldn’t assume the report you cite here is similarly inaccurate. You yourself falsely claimed here on GAG recently that „two people killed at the Capitol were killed by whites“ (the only person killed there was Ashli Babbitt and the government has so refused to identify the Capitol police officer who killed her).
A few years ago, Kathy Griffin published an image of herself holding Trump‘s severed head. Was she ever prosecuted for that, and why not? My guess is that it was determined to be figurative.
If only you were half as concerned about the rash of anti-Semitic attacks by your fellow leftists.
Look at how many are veterans. I'll be honest I voted for Trump the first go round. And I wasn't against the March on the Capitol I just didn't get what they hoped to accomplish. But when it came down I found it surreal. I'd like to know the number of the total marchers vs. Those that actually committed the acts because. This is the problem when you allow a fringe group or groups to grab hold of a movement. What I don't get is why the republican party is still aligning itself with Trump.

They don't want to take any responsibility for what Trump followers did. They are like a three year old, who closed their eyes, so they can believe something bad that just happened, didn't really happen.
Probably because most people that went in felt the police let them in. It looked similar to a college football game where the police try to hold back the people and once a couple get loose they just stand aside and let them all over the field.
OK, Odd, let's indulge your little conspiracy theory. The Republicans are not in power, so it must be your beloved Democrats, who are in charge of the Capitol Police who are covering up these alleged deaths. You have also used the word "died"- can you tell us how they died (what does the medical examiner say)?
Please also name the specific Capitol Police officers whose deaths you allege are being covered up.
