Is the Aukus Alliance (Australia, UK, Usa) a modern day Delos league?

An uncharacteristically (for me) brief answer: What would make you draw such a comparison? While parallels may be drawn, they are of the most superficial kind. It would have been better had you drawn, in the explanation section of the question, just what parallels you have in mind.

Indeed, there are far more recent and appropriate parallels than one that dates back to 478 BC. Probably the best example being the alliance between the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand to defeat Japan in World War II.

Here there was an alliance of maritime powers aimed at defeating a single power, most of the advantages to which, in the end, were to the United States. Though no one complained at the time - and now not even the Japanese complain.

If the argument is that, like Athens in the Delos League, the accusation is made that the United States is exploiting the alliance to its own advantage, the question then becomes a cost/benefit analysis. Would the UK and Australia prefer to contain China on their own? Could they?

If the USA is exploiting the benefits most, is it not also bearing the greatest costs? In that connection, if the USA were left to bear that burden alone, might it then reduce its commitment to NATO - to the stark and direct disadvantage of the UK - in compensation.

In international affairs, unequal and ever changing alliances and cost/benefit trade-offs are the norm. In that very general and superficial sense, the AUKUS alliance - which by the way is NOT a formal treaty in the sense that NATO or the Delos League are and were, respectively - is similar to Delos.

However, it is a very superficial comparison and indeed, one that has been repeated hundreds, if not thousands of times in human history. As that line from the "King and I" has it: "If allies are weak, am I not best alone? If allies are strong, may they not help me out of all I own?"

Well, you're right, it's very artificial. I thought of the league of delos only because athene will regroup other Greek cities (mainly maritime powers) to fight against a common enemy, of course all under the authority of Athens.

I thought this was kind of what is happening with The Usa, England, and Australia, England and Australia being maritime powers for obvious reasons, and the Usa unquestionably being the first global maritime power, add to that, that you are all Anglo-Saxons.

Needless to add that this question is not a matter of deep thought.

Why often when I ask a question about the Usa do you think that I am "accusing" the Usa of anything? Is it because of the way the questions are written?

I did not think you were accusing the USA of anything. As I say, it was unclear WHAT you were trying to say so I offered a possible interpretation of the question and responded to it.

No it’s more like a restart of Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) but without the other countries starting as one.

New Zealand will likely join the set up and then it will be Japan. A bit like Germany in Europe, Japan needs to throw off its WW2 legacy and become far more active militarily (which it is slowly doing).
