Rather complex question. In short, I think the US has a balance of being free in certain core ways that are important to nearly all people and not free in ways that would protect and ensure the stability and flourishing of all. For example, people are free to do as they please when it comes to whatever career to pursue, where to live, who to have sex with, what activities to pursue, etc. Now, they are not free to storm the White House without repercussions, kill whoever they want for fun, terrorize cities for money, etc. The key word here is “balance.” When you have more and more people in a place, things can become more complicated, specifically when it comes to organizing or managing how everyone will live together and work together in life.

But if cheating in elections has changed outcomes, then no we are not free. That means they’re making decisions for us. Since we can never know for sure, it will be a future of not knowing if the decisions that would more closely reflect the people’s are being chosen, leaving freedom with fog. Of course, if you believe that the last election was stolen (by a party that could steal the presidency without a trace but couldn't be bothered to steal the Senate as well), anything is acceptable, right?

It's an illusion. Being able to quit a job without worrying about health care for your family is a freedom. Being able to be out and gay is a freedom. Being able to be trans and accepted is a freedom. And what do they cost anyone else? Nothing. In fact, a common health care pool for everyone (or all but the very rich) is cheaper than the current system.

America was founded by pirate smugglers thieves and lawyers, did you really see that going any differently? Incidentally, did anyone else notice that a man who invented a car that runs on water just happened to get gunned down in New York before he took his invention public, just in time for ratcheting up oil profits to peak in time for midterms?
