Why are some people (usually men) disturbed/disgusted about periods?

It's a natural thing and I don't have an issue with it. But it can smell and that can be off putting. I have a very strong sense of smell. To the point where I will smell road kill when driving around before anyone else in the car does. So it leads to a funny situation where I smell and react to the dead skunk on the road before everyone else does. Only for them to get a nose full it a few sec after I smelled it at first.

But a period is no where as off putting as feet. Hell I don't even like mine and the only time you will see me without socks is when I'm in bead asleep or in the shower. Also I almost obsessively clean mine and I am not a fan of open toe shoes on anyone.

Some men do have an overreaction to periods. I am guessing this could be due to the unknown. Men have no idea what occurs during a period and the unknown is scary. Any time a man bleeds, it is due to injury. We can also observe a lot of women have a disgusted reaction to male semen, usually before having sex for the first time.
I tend to look at periods like any other bodily fluid. Gross, but in the same way pee, poop, or blood from a wound.

I have seen a lot of women here on GAG and elsewhere who try to equate the fact that some men are disturbed/disgusted by periods with "sexism" and "female oppression". I'm not claiming you are necessarily doing that here, but when women do that it IS female entitlement and self-importance.

I’m honestly Really not sure about this. I am personally not affected by it. I understand that it is totally normal for women. My ex and her mother and sisters openly discussed periods around me. I was more fascinated than anything else, and not disgusted at all. I’m sorry I can’t be more help on the subject. All I can say is that I do get your confusion.

Probably an evolutionary adaptation. I've noticed that men with higher levels of testosterone tend to be more repulsed by the smell.
