The United Kingdom can control access to the Mediterranean.
Like it or not aircraft have weight limits that make it cost in effective to supply an army via them.
No I don’t think it is militarily significant anymore.
Britain just wants it still for cultural reasons. And because they want to cling on to their territories.
You know the United Kingdom recently used Gibraltar to take control of an Iranian Oil tanker?
Its is a fantastic position from which the UK can command much of the trade of southern Europe, and north Africa.
In war this Naval base has almost never failed to advantage the United Kingdom. The only alternative trade routes for theses regions are by land and air nether of which even compare to the cost-effectiveness and flexibility of sea trade.
Hence why this position is soo valuable to the United Kingdom, and their allies.

And the English having had in the past the control of Gibraltar and with the Suez Canal allowed him to access more quickly to India, the Germans had tried to take control of it for his fight against the English.
