They have to know about it to do anything about it. Different names... SSN's and whatnot can sort of set you apart from the usual.

@D_Bone_Steak If you're under investigation they're going to have instant access to all your financial records, travel records, etc. They're going to know where you have assets, and as powerful as the US government is they can seize these regardless of who's name they are in. Just because most government employees are idiots doesn't mean the entity does not possess the ability to know what you're up to (unless you're REALLLLLY good at money laundering).
