Twitter is a giant echo chamber. Imagine a warehouse with shelving that has hundreds of thousands of cell phones running bot accounts on twitter and people writing mass messages that make it appear there are millions of more followers then expected. People could look more popular than it seemed, or effective people could have someone write things that made them almost seem like a real person having input against them.

Open and honest discussion is the last thing they would want. Plus its a tool that can be used politically which is why Elon was asking Jack Dorsey what he would do different. Jack said he wished he ran Twitter like the Signal texting app.

Plus Elon probably wanted to buy it before all the juicy information got revealed so he wouldn't be on the hook for their illegal activities.

If there was 95% fake bot accounts, imagine the backlash that comes against Twitter by companies like Nike who THOUGHT they were paying for advertising only to discover they can't sell new sneakers to a Samsung phone. The lawsuits and discovery evidence is going to be something else. Its unlikely that most social media survives. Then once twitter becomes worthless, he could just sell it to President Trumps Media Acquisition company and he could merge twitter into truth social. Very likely he's reinstated back to twitter before they fall apart too.

I'm all for free speech, but why are Republicans so goddamned ignorant, that they don't realize free speech ONLY applies to government entities, and NOT private corporations?

A private company can censor whatever the fuck it wants to, because its users agree to its TOS when they create an account. If/when you violate the agreement that YOU agreed to, then you get banned. Why is that so fucking hard for you microbrains to understand?

Yes, it is hard to apply the first ammendment to a private entity but the left is having a fit because Musk says he WON'T censor most types of speech. What the left hears is, "You're actually gonna have to defend your thoughts and be challenged". Crazy concept, I know.

I didn't say it's impossible but it's very hard to apply the first ammendment to social media because, they are private. It is supposedly an "open forum to express all opinions" BUT once they start playing editor, like f. b did with their "misinformation" campaign, they can be held accountable by the government, because they are no longer an open forum, they are a "news" agency. That's why Suckabird went before congress. Twitter did ban the news articles about Hunter Biden, which they have every right to but they did allow it's users to share opinions about it.

The democrats had all the major internet platforms in the tank with them. When the Hunter Bidden corruption story broke the big tech companies purposely spiked the story and even suppressed the New York Post who caried the story on it's website. This was enough to pull Joe Biden over the finish line, Now we have a guy who wants to buy one of the big internet companies and open it up to everyone and the democrats aare afraid that the public will now have some access to the truth about what the democrats are really doing.

If you think the GOP is all for it, you are a fool. Free speech is part of free will. People on both sides of the isle will oppose it if it negatively effects them. So in a lot of ways both sides do their best to make everyone think they are not on a leash. But if you ever cross the line on one side of the isle or another they will quickly yank you back into line. You have seen it play out too many times in human history to not believe it.

Those are restrictions upon government, not non-governmental entities or individuals. However, if they censor speech simply because they disagree, then they should be civilly liable for copyright violations if they do not remove them once they are pointed out to them.
