What do you think of people who give homeless people money?

Personally I think it’s really kind and generous, I live in a huge city and a lot of people kind of ignore them like they’re not there. Who do you think is in the right? It’s a touchy and difficult topic.

I usually ignore them. For one because it’s the same damn problem everyday who seem more than capable of getting jobs. Fuck getting a job I mean if you offered a service like washing my widow I’ll pay you but a lot of these homeless people just want to stand out there asking for money. I see this girl on the same way to work everyday w her sign, family of 5 lost home due to COVID. It’s like COVID had been over for a while find a new excuse. But guess what she’s not standing there on the weekends cause she’s probably getting high. Bitch can barely stand there w her sign, all skinny as fuck, looking leathery, probably was a cute blond at one time who maybe in her 20’s. She always looks high, barely can open her eyes. Now I will give change to those who again may offer a service. Fuck if you said do you need some trash thrown out from your car I can do it for some change. I’d gladly give him some cash even if I didn’t have change. The fact that he’s at least trying to do something is why I’d help.

I despise bums. People can do with their money what they want, but they are encouraging their behavior. I’ve seen the same bums in my city in the same areas, bumming at the same intersections for months and sometimes years.

I especially hate how the bums seek out high traffic areas so they can take advantage of approaching people for more money. It’s disgusting. And these will be young, able-bodied men.

Then there are the gutter punks. They are their own loathsome subspecies of bum.

The Black bums always think that I’ll give them money out of some abundance of “white guilt”—an attitude that I lack. They always want some oddly specific amount of money: seventy-five cents or a dollar fifteen. A deliberate tactic in the hope that you just throw a few dollars at them. You don’t just ASK for money. You ask for eighty-five cents so you get a dollar.

And I watch as well dressed yuppie Caucasians give them money as they pass them, holding their pumpkin spice lattes with oat milk. Just the other day I watched a guy bum money successfully twice in the span of about ten minutes. Then he just sauntered off on his way.

None of these are necessarily the same as the homeless guy that I watched have a conversation with a telephone pole.

I was one of those people that gave money to the homeless. Or bought food. At one point I did care packages with general items and sanitary products.

I have a lot of beggars on my street and they have killed all the businesses. They are not homeless but housing refusers. The simple fact is - here in Australia - they could have public accommodation but they would have to make a small contribution. They don't want to because it is more important to use any money they have for drugs - ice heroin etc.

They can actually make a substantial income begging - 1 to 2 hundred dollars a day.

If you kind heartedly donate/ virtue signal then you are simply supporting the lifestyle of living and crapping n the street. You are part of the problem.

Ehh, I see it as more impulse buying. If you’re feeling bad, and there’s a guy holding a sign, give him a buck and feel superior.

I’m concerned that cash is becoming less used. Will these guys have credit card swipes? Be funny to see one pull out a iPad with a card swiper. “That’s all you’d like to donate today?”

I think it's a personal choice and I wouldn't make a judgement one way or another. Because I think you are just as likely to pay for some junkies next fix as you are to pay for a person's next meal when you give a homeless person money.

I think they are naive. Many are not homeless and many who are use the money for drugs. I would never give money to a "homeless" for those reasons.

I always help the homeless people when I see them. On any given day I have a dozen care bags in my vehicle that I give out to homeless people.
