because the silk road (which the occupation of afghanistan was "really" about is currently not as valuable as the microchip business. also most of the middle east doesn't currently have money to pay for American weapons anyway anymore so they dropped the middle east. instead they're now selling weapons to ukraine and are forcing Europe to basically loan or gift ukraine infinite money for that purpose.
