I think we're in agreement in general. There's plenty of undue influence and corruption in Washington. Working off of insider knowledge happens but I doubt it did in the case you mentioned. These people aren't stupid and their trades have to be filed with the IRS.

The Pelosi's are very wealthy but about 1/5 of the figure you gave, somewhere around $130 million not $500.

That said, I do think there should be Congressional term limits and I'd favor barring former members of Congress from working as lobbyists for 5 years after leaving office. That would do wonders to cut down on revolving door type influence.
