I was told by a user this site is full of social outcasts, and doesn't show what Americans are like or what they think.

+1 yTo a large degree that's true. Not everyone here are outcasts, but as a whole it is not representative. That's pretty much true of the entire Internet.
If you want to know about American society there is only one way to do that. You need to move there and live there for several years, ideally live in several different places around the country. It's a big and diverse place, so people in one part of the country don't represent the country as a whole either. For that matter, a lot of people in one part of the country don't know a thing about the rest of the country.
On top of that, the number of "Americans" who aren't really Americans would make one of the largest countries in the world - by that I mean the tens of millions of immigrants. If you add the immigrants and children of immigrants, it's probably over a hundred million.

When you see the US in someone's profile, you have no way of knowing how American they are unless they tell you.
But this is is NOT representative. Not even close. - +1 y
Many (most?) immigrants will call themselves American. Because in a sense they are. They just weren't raised here so they have far more characteristics of the place they came from than they have American characteristics.
But this is not only about immigrants. I only mentioned that because a LOT of people in the US were not born here. But even among the people born and raised in the US, this site is not representative. Most people actually have a life, instead of spending hours a day on sites like this.
I don't like to use the term outcast like that other person did, but there is definitely a disproportionate number of people on this site who don't have much of a social life. - +1 y
So let me get this straight. You ask a question but don't want to know the answer because you think you already know it. Why ask in the first place?
- +1 y
What I know is that I took the time to answer the question but you don't want to hear the answer.
- +1 y
Yes I think. You think also.
Have you ever stepped foot in the US? Have you lived here?
Do you think you know more about it than someone who has lived here over 60 years, and lived in ten states in every region of the country - plus has been using this site for ten years?
Yes we both think. But you asked a question, and I answered as someone who at least has enough background to give a reasonable answer.
It's annoying as hell when people on here ask questions but don't want to know the answer.

And that's easy to understand...
The median age of people living in the United States is about 38.
Statistically, "median" means half the people are above that age and half the people are below it (and those who are 38 are sort of split between the two).
Now, if you were to look at the median age of this place, it's well below 38.
In other words, unlike in the American population overall, people above 38, like me, are underrepresented here, so our voice doesn't balance out the dominant more youthful voice here.
If this place was to be more representative of America, it's median age would also need to be around 38.02 Reply
+1 yThere isn't a way to really see American Society, but since this app is world wide there is a lot of non American's here.
It is exactly why survey's are pretty pointless, because a company contracted to doing them, knows they can get specific answers by doing 'random' polls in targeted area's that they know will answer one way or the other.
Do a random poll that focuses mostly on colleges you'll get more liberal answers, do a random poll that focuses mostly in conservatives area's you get conservatives answers.
American society is highly divided, with one side wanting lots of freedom and the other wanting to take it away.

+1 yThere is an unusually high % of QAnons on this site, which certainly skews things a bit. Although some of them (unvaxxed fatsos) have been dying. And others are going to jail (for storming the Capitol or for murdering their serpent children) so maybe soon it will be more representative?

No, probably not. Most of the people on here are on one political extreme or the other and "normies" get freaked out being on here and leave within two to five days from installing the app.
Despite what social media and mainstream media show you, most Americans are fairly normal. STUPID, just like literally anywhere else in the world. But "normal." Social media just seems to bring out the worst in people. And while I don't think I'm that bad or a bad person at all, I admit it often brings out the "worst" in me, as well. Most Americans aren't "libtards" or "Trump supporters™" like this site likes to suggest.

+1 yThe people on this website who are tolls and degenerates yell the loudest. You’re right. These are people in the underground of society. The people you look at and think “wow that person is a really odd person”.
People who wouldn’t say the shit they say on here in real life. It’s not everyone and no most people aren’t like this

+1 yThere are rules to calculating statistical results that would demand that any social media is a fair representation of society in general. However, no social media site available would meet the limitations to demographic diversity required by the majority of peer reviewed and published empirical research. So…. ‘no’. G@G, like all social media is at best a clique; most likely a group of cliques. Only people who live in echo chambers online would suggest otherwise.

+1 yI know that there are plenty of non-Americans on this site, but I can't help but think there's SO many Americans here bringing out the worst that American culture can offer. Like certain religious types who feel they have the right to judge people, who lack any self-doubt and have no understanding what it's like to be in other people's shoes.
This is SO much America.
00 ReplyActually, this site is much better than Reddit. And this is a Turkish in US owned website. Kislasoryulor or something is this sites Turkish version.
They used to give out gift cards and t shirts for xper points when I joined. Now they don't. And it's a lot more kid friendly then Reddit and I made a few close friends here though to say it is a bad site )).
No, it's not entirely American site. It's more a mix up of other people 🙂

@Alchemizt the morons stopped it just when I reached the highestscore. I wanted to donate that money but it got cancelled 😩.
Now I just like it because it's a lot less crowded and less bull crap here and the anonymous feature also helps - +1 y
@Alchemizt oh yeah I know it's not the same as before but I like it for some reason.
773 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. it is rather international. representative of Americans. I think not. this is really a fantasy site where you can be anyone you want , say anything you want and not feel the repercussions of being an asshole. it’s why there seems to be an apparent deluge of assholes. lol.
00 Reply1.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. there are people from all over the world in here. no, it doesn't represent Americans only. and whoever said that probably gets blocked for being a troll.
20 Reply6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The part of American society that is online, yes. But a lot of what we do is offline.
Or at least it used to be.

What he said about social outcasts might be true, but the American society thing is not.
00 Reply3.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Well that's an easy yes. America voted for trump and I've seen an accurate depiction of Americans here express their love for trump so if that's not representing America I don't know what is.
00 Reply1.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. From what I have seen, there aren't enough active users on here to be very representative. Plus most people don't even know this site exists. And not everyone is on social media like this.
