If diversity, (race) is a factor in getting admitted to top colleges, since far more females than males are admitted, should sex also be a factor?

College admission should be based on grades and test scores primarily, with consideration given to the students particular education goals and numbers of seats in a particular college. Take x number of students for a particular major if their grades and test scores indicate that they have the ability to excel in that particular major. First come first serve. The only bias I think should be afforded are first residents of the community where the college is located should be given preferential treatment. First give preference to residents of the region/county of the college. After that give preference to the state residents. Finally given preference to citizens of the same country. The goal of schools are to educate the local populous so that they can be productive members of said local economy and fill particular roles that are needed locally. Second, I believe members from community/state colleges that have already completed their basic education requirements and earned an Associates degree of some sort in their local community should be given preference for admission to universities because they have a track record of academic success at the college level and have likely completed all their prerequisites for admission to the college where they will earn their Bachelor's, therefore they are more qualified for the position than kids coming straight out of high school. Other than that, your personality, race, sex, etc. are all academically irrelevant.

I wouldn't be surprised if it has been a factor for decades. I think ever since the 70s or 80s female students surpassed male students and the separation got bigger and bigger from there.

I agree that public schools have been designed to favor girls. In fact, at present, public schools are a hostile environment for little boys who are expected to sit still, be quiet, and act like little girls. However, my question was should race be a factor in getting admitted. That is, to increase the percentage of males at colleges by given them lower or different standards for acceptance in order to make the percentage of males in colleges more in line with their percentage of the population for college age men and women.

Neither race nor sex should be a factor. The only factor is whether or not you have proven yourself worthy of being able to handle what the college has to offer. Being a certain race or sex does not make a difference in intelligence so it wouldn't make any sense to have it be a deciding factor.

Of course there is a difference in the intelligence of the races. To claim otherwise is foolishness and an inability to accept the obvious facts.

Even if you are correct, why keep recording race? If they prove their intelligence, why turn them away of they see the "wrong" race?

It is their average that is low. Nearly all USA blacks and Hispanics have white genes; some from a few super bright whites. Therefore, some so called minorities are exceptionally intelligent and will do well in Harvard. In any event, that is getting off the subject of should sex be a factor.

If you get good grades and have the focus to push yourself to get a higher education then you will get admitted into college.

Men today just don't want to go to college as much as women do, and rightly so in some cases as college is very expensive and you can make very good money in today's society with internet among other stuff without having a college degree.

The real question is: should there be more variables in admission decisions or less? Should we calculate sex/race/grades/electives/hobbies etc? Or just keep it about grades? And maybe anonymize the applications? I don’t know…

It would not help you get into college. In fact it would decrease your chances since colleges would have to admit more male and reduce the number of females accepted. However, only by about 5 percent.

In any event it is not good economics to attend college. That is because it will cost you 4 years of loss earnings and another 2 years of earning to pay for college. And, after you graduate, for the first 5 years you would earn no more then you will be earning after 4 years of working with the added 4 years of experience. Even, at age 44, then you salary would not be much greater. Therefore, in the next 16 years before retirement, you would never recover your college expenses and loss of 4 years of income.

Working while attending college would greatly reduce the lose of income and greatly increase you experience that otherwise would be lost. However, unless you are exceptionally bright, I believe college can be very demanding of your time. You may message me.
