Philadelphia Flyers player Ivan Provorov refused to wear a rainbow pride jersey during warmups on pride night. Provorov cited his faith as the reason he did not want to wear the jersey. Many are upset that he was not benched, and some say he should be fired. Opinions?
The Flyers should keep politics out of sport and never have "required" anybody to do that in the first place. If the Flyers as an organization want to make a show of support, they can do it other ways and not use their players as billboards.

@LiamSawyer Yes, I agree. Ironically, these same owners would have blasted their players for taking a knee during an anthem, if the owners found that offensive. The politics need to stop.

A high school football coach used to pray all by himself at the end of a game. His prayer was to give thanks because none of his players were injured. Soon other players joined him in prayer. Well, the principal told him that if he didn't stop praying for his team, he would be fired. He didn't stop, and he got fired.
He didn't ask for it, but lawyers came out of the woodwork to represent him pro bono. It went to the supreme court, and he won. He could have asked for millions in damages, but all he wanted to do was get back to his team, and he didn't even want back pay. He did, however, request money to pay for all of his lawyers. That was in the millions, and the school district needed to pony-up the money, and they did.
People need to stand up to bullies. I just hope that the principal that fired him, is now a fry cook at McDonald's.
Of course he should have been allowed to play. I imagine his contract doesn't contain any language stating he's required to be an activist. No one should be forced to put their support behind an issue.
Ivan is in the right. The NHL commission would do well to fire their activists in HR and cut the politics out of entertainment programming, especially when a huge chunk of their players aren't even American and don't need to, nor should they concern themselves with our political nonsense.

I don’t know why those fucks keeps forcing people into supporting LGBT wither they want to or not. Firing someone for this silly reason would be worse than him not wanting to make his own choice. He did wear his team's uniform. He just chose to not participate in a warm up session where they wore pride jerseys. They wore their regular uniforms for the actual game.

Not putting your support behind something is not being negative towards it. It's being neutral. No one should have to go against themselves or their beliefs to make someone else feel good. I would hope a fan would respect his right to be himself. I'm 0a big fan of Amy Lee, however I don't like her views. By choosing to support the lgbtq+ community and being part of pride night he can help young people who are questioning their purpose and scared of those who hate them and want to reject them. That’s how him choosing to be part of the team and not being selfish by sitting out helps. By him now making headlines he is showing those young people how he doesn’t see them or support their life choices.
