What are the steps I must undergo? I’m in WA state and this is my first time

Advertise it
Find a buyer (expect dealers who pretend not to be dealers to contact you)
Get paid. Don't be surprised if they pay in cash. That's pretty normal in private transactions.
Sign over the title. Sign it, and fill in any blanks. Make sure you write in the exact miles on the odometer (for liability purposes)
Your state probably requires the signature to be notarized. So don't sign it until the notary public is present. All banks should have one.

Your state might require a separate release of liability form.
You need to check you state how the license plates work. In some states the plates stay with the car. In other states you keep them and can transfer the plates to your next car.

Do NOT let someone make payments under any circumstance. However a down payment is common to hold the car until they come back with full payment. The down payment doesn't need to be a large amount, just enough that they won't want to lose if if they try to back out. A hundred bucks should be fine.

Don't make rash decisions and accept a lower price than you intended. Some people are good and tricking you into a lower price. Know your bottom dollar and be firm.

Also transfer insurance to your next car if you have one. You can probably do this on the phone.

I sold one on Car Guru. You should check Kelly's Blue Book to get an idea what the vehicle is selling for in your area. In my state all you need is a title and you need to make a bill of sale. You can find blank Bills of Sale on the internet.

You sign over the deed to it to the new owner, get paid, and go to the dmv to inform them so you won't be hit with property taxes regarding owning it.

Google is probably a better help than this site. Every state is different. But you’ll need to advertise the car, you’ll need a title and bill of sale.
