Extreme example sure, but this illustrates why it's important to tell someone the truth, and the consequences of bullshitting them.

feel like i have to clarify even further so, Often, a short term minor sting from truth will do the person better in the long run. A deceptive lie will compound the pain and suffering they will experience later.

Perhaps a better example would be if someone asked you if they're looking a little yellow.
And being the nice person people think they are they say "nnoooo you look totally fine it's all in your head"
So, this person believes their so called friend and puts it off until they get more and more yellow to the point where strangers even point it out and say they don't look so well.

WHat is this, it's jaundice.
If it were caught earlier perhaps that person would have lived longer or got out of it without permanent damage. But the stupid so called friend who says nooo you look fine don't worry it's all in your head. WIth their bullshit lie, did far more damage to this person than if someone honest was there saying "Yes, you look yellow, lets go to the hospital and check this out to be safe".

For example “Why don’t you want to date me?”
Do you think it better to say to them the truth “It’s because I don’t find you attractive” or lie to them and say “I already have a boyfriend.”

The best answer would be "sorry you're just not my type." you don't have to justify not wanting to date. In reality the fact he wanted an explanation is a reason I wouldn't date him. But is there any reason to tell them they're unattractive? I think not.
