How do you feel about the Baby Boomer Generation?

I think the baby boomer are great people. Very prosperous group of people. The boomers brought in the greatest rock and roll ever. The boomers also brought us the computer as we know it. They brought fort the muscle car. Started the 401 saving plan the IRA's.

History will see them as the greatest generation. The US saw more advancement in technology, culture, economics, medicine and literature in the 60s 70s and 80s. The boomers taught the rest of us to question authority.

When I first joined GaG I posted a question about would you hit a woman. Most of yhe younger people had no problem with it. Some actually texted me calling me a simp and I was what was wrong with America today m. The irony was that some of the people that texted me were females. That was really messed up.

It was an amazing time to grow up. Baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964, so there is a big difference in types of boomers.

Those born in the 40's typically grew up to be more buttoned down and "conventional" than those who were born later. They grew up loving music like big band, jazz, Sinatra and Elvis. Younger Boomers grew up with the British invasion, Dylan, electric folk, and varieties of rock music.

What set Boomers apart from previous generations was, their parents lived through the hardships of WWII and their grand parents lived through the Great Depression. Boomers enjoyed relatively carefree lives.

When Boomers were born, there were so many new things - TV, for one. Also, tract homes and planned, suburban communities were a new phenomenon. They had fully staffed parks and recreation, schools, shopping centers and services.

There was disposable income, so kids had bikes and toys. It was the most prosperous time in history for average people.

Car culture was a thing.

Even the concept of "teen age" was a new concept. There were TV shows and movies about teens. There was an entire genre of "teen rebel" movies that featured cars and motorcycles.

The birth control pill was released onto the market.
Bikinis and surfing became popular.

African Americans began organizing to end segregation. The civil rights movement came to symbolize the Boomer generation, along with anti-war protests, women's lib, and Woodstock.

Boomers revolutionized music.

I relate to the values of certain boomers - peace, love, open mindedness, tolerance, fairness and justice, liberty and freedom, distrust of authority, and opposition to war. I always considered those to be liberal values. But they seem to be the opposite of what passes for "liberal" these days, and part of that is because of Boomers who trust institutions, blindly support the Democratic party, and believe mainstream media.

So, some Boomers are cool as fuck, and some are responsible for much of what is wrong with this country today because they were so privileged that they took freedom for granted.

The last thing I'll say is, some Boomers did a shit job of raising their kids.

We at least started out as probably the best one but, by the time we became grandparents, everything started turning to shit!!
In comparison to what's come up since then, I like to point to Woodstock!! At the first one, there were half a million kids all gathered in very shitty conditions for a week or so (most of them) and EVERYTHING was VERY peaceful!! THEN we look at the next one about 30 years later and there's rape, fires, fights, destruction galore, peace, love and music went OUT the fucking window!! And the one after that wasn't much better, partly due to the concession stand prices being so INSANELY high!! $5 or $10 for a BOTTLE OF WATER? NO WONDER they went ape shit!!

History will mark them as one of the most decadent, selfish generations in Western history. With utter abandon, they crushed future generations with debt, undermined all cultural institutions in the quest for absolute personal autonomy, and were suckers for ideological versus realistic motivations at every turn. Of course, they were predestined to oversee decline given the stage of the West’s cultural lifecycle, but thanks to the toxic ideology of progressive idealism in which almost all of them were inculcated, the West is more apt to experience a Rome-like collapse than a Chinese-like ossification.

We are a great generation.
What we have been through, how we were raised, taking responsibility for our actions.
The Vietnam protests, riots, social changes, the muscle car Era to the cars of the mid 70s.
We lived through a lot.

I can’t put an entire generation of people into a single category. You all had different upbringings and life experiences. Some went to college and had careers, others were drafted to Nam, and some became hippes/embraced counterculture. Therefore, it’s impossible to form a single opinion about such a diverse group of people.

Probably the last with the hard working ethics but a lot of them also did drugs so I guess which ever ones survived all that and the Vietnam war probably did a lot for this country
