If the US dollar was in any real danger of collapsing, I'd put my money into something useful, like food, or bullets. The entire point of gold was that it wasn't useful.

And in the case of a full-on currency collapse, you're going to need survival things FAR more than you will something that can readily be converted to another form of currency, especially given that several of them will ALSO collapse if the dollar goes down.
