at some point yes presidential candidates should have secret service protection.
They do 100 days out of the election.
You could just write in your self and become a presidential candidate. Then you gotta figure out how to protect fictional characters become they get more votes then real people.
Basically what I'm saying being a candidate really doesn't mean anything. "President elect" meaning they won the election but has not taken the oath of office yet does mean something.

Not every one - just ones that quailfy according to present rules. Otherwise it would be too expensive.
Everyone gets it 100 days out. There are a select few though that get it right away. Discrimination for this is crazy. RFK got denied but Obama got it 500 days out.
If Clint Eastwood were to run , even at his age , he should get unlimited :)
