I've heard that trans people who grow up not knowing being trans is an option (or not being safe to take that option themself) can subconsciously lean very hard into trying to be their assigned-at-birth gender, in a way overcompensating for feeling like they aren't really that gender.

Like a trans woman being hyper masculine as a kid/teen, taking a stereotypically manly job like mechanic, or joining the military, etc. Even marry a woman and raise kids. Their brain has just shut out that feeling and they may even not remember or feel much at all, just going through the motions for years or decades, not realizing how they feel isn't normal.

Then something happens that makes them remember that feeling, that they know deep down something isn't right. Maybe now they feel safe to question, or just can't ignore the need to figure out their identity anymore. Often looking back they can even see many signs that they were trans that they just didn't know at the time.

That could be the case with your experience. But whether it is or not, it'd be a good idea to seek counseling from someone who has experience in this topic (gender identity) who can help you figure out maybe what you are experiencing and why, and how you want to handle it in your own life. Now that you’re a woman what are your thoughts on your fellow women who don’t want you in their sports or bathrooms or other private spaces because you were born a man (and as of right now still has male genitalia)?
