As we get older, why are we afraid of loneliness?

Not sure why, at my age, you kind of welcome peace and quiet of spending some time alone. I am typically busy either at work or helping friends with their renovation projects, so I get very little time to myself.

It's kind of nice when everyone else is busy and I have time to get a project or two done at home. I can take sometime and make a nice meal, sit and read with the dogs, or head down to dock/shoreline and watch the sun go down.

can't say I've seen that, but I have seen old people in homes whom don't have visitors... no kids or kids don't come around much, and homeless on the street seemily with little support. that's a hard way to go when the body and mind are no longer sharp.

thus, build community of support as best we can and hope for the best.

My wife does home health visits and sees a lot of elderly patients. Manyvlivecalone and it is obvious that my wife is the only human interaction they get. It is scary to think you will die alone and it will be the cops that find you after someone complains about the smell

Only people who have done nothing to deserve company, do.  The way I look at it, loneliness is karma, for the peace you took from others. In fact the biggest punishment in prison, is loneliness,

Because as our beauty fades, diseases and health problems start to pile up and if you haven’t had kids you start to look at the average age and wonder if it’s too late and whether or not you missed your chance at finding someone.

I am not a psych. But there is something to be said for having a  separate peace. 
 You keep your own company and validate yourself by small accomplishments, even if it's just taking out the trash on time. Love yourself.

Depending on how long you live you can run out of friends as they pass or have dementia, or othe debilitating health issues, family can live far away, and you are all by yourself.

Because we are not as youthful as we used to be, and we see that us being unattractive and less likely to find a romantic partner, even though it's not.
