Who would make a good replacement for Indiana jones?

Id say the era of white people going spelunking is pretty much over. You no longer associate the white British gentleman with world travel and curios for example. As such, the type of person that would get their hands dirty in fieldwork as well as have respect for the local customs to heed things like folktale would probably be someone who already have a lot of this in their own culture. A Native American for example would probably do really well in this role as a more instinctual "archeologist".

Double down on the adventure and spectacle of the series rather than the intellectual detective side. Less trying to unravel a mystery to understand and more trying to navigate the unknown and occult without the pretense that you are in control or that it is safe. This is where this series shines in my opinion, when you are forced into another cultures reality and have to contend with their rules and their boogieman. Keeping the unknown as unknown also makes the world appear bigger and more mystical and interesting compared to something like Scooby Doo where every mystery is meant to be resolved and that it is always just a human under that mask pursuing their own greed.

For the sake of the story and adventure it is better to keep the magic alive and the dangers unknown. That is why I think it would be better to have a main character that does not demand answers or explanations but rather accepts that they dont know everything and tries to approach problems based on their own instincts. That way you can have them make mostly the right decisions without having them discover the mystery or pattern and it also opens up the ability of having them make a mistake at crucial times without them being at fault or appearing to be incompetent.

It could also work the other way around as well. The fantastical world that the main character explores by virtue of their own instinct would also make the character themselves appear more fantastical and mystical. Have them appear larger than life which again reinforces the choice of someone like a Native American since they do have an image of being mystical and in tune with the world.

But this is just my opinion of what would be a fresh re-imagining of Indiana Jones with a completely new main character.

@DryGermanGuy Literally could not care less about diversity. I care about what makes a better story, and this would definitely do it. Replacing Indiana Jones with a new white actor would just undermine the brand and also probably not work. My suggestion actually has something to contribute beyond just trying to resuscitate a dead series.

I hope they do neither and let the work just stand as it is. Too many good films/series have been reused, reinvented or recycled to death.

@DryGermanGuy *shrugs* And what would replace it? Currently there is a gap in the market for these types of adventure movies. I am by no means married to Indiana Jones or this idea in particular but something has to fill that void and Indiana Jones was specifically brought up as a topic.

I don’t even see the need to specifically replace it… what we have, we have. Let the creative people of Hollywood actually be creative for a change and not serve us the hundredth variation of the same ideas.

@DryGermanGuy What we have, we had, but there is no guarantee that it still exists any longer today. The audience has been hungry for for just this since long ago. It is partially why the Pirates of the Caribbean was so successful for example. There is simply not enough in the market today and a new Indiana Jones remake would fit right in that gap. As for the creative people in Hollywood being allowed to create for once?

Nothing about limiting them to iterations actually prevents this. Quite the contrary, I find that people are the most creative when they are working within set limitations. Disney for example built their whole company more or less on remaking old folks tales like the little mermaid and whatnot. I dont see why this would be that incredibly different.
