We didn't, DNC fixed the 2020 primary like they did they 2016 primary to keep sanders from getting the Dem nomination. Now the DNC is at it again by fixing the 2024 primary to protect Biden by chaining the primary rules so an candidate who campaigns in Iowa and New Hampshire, their delegates won't count and going forward their votes is South Carolina.

As a former Dem, you are correct about a lot of Dems wanting Bernie or Tulsi during the primary. Blue-MAGA's aka Clinton/Biden supporters will claim the primaries weren't fixed against progressives, but the the evidence their there such as Chicago board of elections, during audits of voting machines, erasing Sanders votes and adding Hillary votes so the hand counted audit results would match the results of the voting machines.
