You are probably not going to get any Americans in the first batch. Simply put, the first ones to be returned are the least valuable to Hamas. People that holds the least bargaining power and would probably just be executed otherwise. The ones who USA or Israel actually wants back will have to be negotiated for with something Hamas actually wants in return.

It only seems that way because right wing media is trying very hard to make it seem that way. You see possibly the last election that determines whether or not right wingers will comtinue to be plauged by democracy is coming up. Nothing matters to them except making sure they don't have to be accountable for the predictable consequences of their actions. And while impartial accountability may be a lofty goal of democracy, it's still a goal. Sabotaging a peace deal by turning people against Biden even as he handles it with a deft mastery the Whitehouse hasn't seen since Reagan is absolutely not a low the right wouldn't sink to for power.
