It depends on how big the house is. Growing up I’m used to have my own personal maid. My younger brother had his own living nanny too. She did everything.
We treated them like family never as their title. Called them by their name, bring them out with us. Even help pay sending their children to school!

There were people that did the laundries, together they may switched and cook weekdays. Dinner and Sunday meal my mother used to cook them.
Living in the US, and the life style I choose, I’m as broke as my former maid. I’m tired of it.

If feel so privileged when I say this, but I grew up having maids. At this point, I feel more comfortable having others clean my house. It's just what I know and am familiar with, but I feel like most people would prefer to do it themselves because they have more control. Either way, I've always enjoyed coming home to my room being clean and my bed having been made.

Clean myself, they could steal/lose things. A celebrity's servant of some kind stole their jewelry.

My mom had a home cleaner n she left a red pot in our tub. We told her n she took anothr pot which was ours. Eng. is her 2nd language. We told her n she brought one bak n I'm not sure if that was ours. She let us keep the red pot.

Anothr time she used one of my mom's knifes with a blunt blade 2 scrape n the genius took it. She came ovr because my mom wantd 2 talk 2 her. Mom told her about knife n the genius nevr brought it bak.

Here you are kind of expected to have a house keeper if you are farang , I just have a lady come once a month , its good because I clean up prior to her coming , because I want her to do the serious stuff..

I love it after they have left , the place looks great , then I have a month to slowly get back to where I was , which is never unclean , but sometimes a little messy.

Hire someone, 100%. I have my strengths and weaknesses, and cleaning is definitely not one of my strengths (although I can tidy quickly). I got around to sweeping the staircase today and was shocked by the amount of dust I collected!

It's not even really a question of affordability; even if I earned the same as the cleaner, I'd rather spend 2 hours doing my job than 1 hour cleaning.
