that for every ten feet in elevation change after the first ten feet you need to raise your pump pressure up 5 lbs. if the water is going up or reduce it 5 lbs. if the water is going down.
So, if you are pumping up to the 3rd floor of a building you need to raise your pump's discharge pressure 10lbs. to still be able to maintain the correct nozzle pressure.
On a building with sub basements pumping to a fire in the second sub-basement you need to lower your pump pressure by 5lbs. to maintain the correct nozzle pressure for whatever type of nozzle they are using, adjustable, smooth bore, and what size hose you are using, any appliances, your flow rate tip size all of that needs to be taken into consideration.
If you have a master stream an 1 3/4" line with an adjustable nozzle, a 2 1/2 line with a smooth bore nozzle you need to set the pump to the highest pressure and gate down the other lines to their correct pressure.
We have it figured out beforehand for our standard pre connected lines and mark the gauges with tape so we don't have to sit there and do math, however if you add something else it is not hard to quickly figure out what you need to do.
