Being welcomed by authoritarians is not the flex you think it is. Imagine if Biden were hanging out on the weekends with Dictator of North Korea and then I tried to make the argument that he is a "real" president because he is BFF's with a guy that no one else can stand to be in the same room as. It does not show you in a good light to keep those acquaintances.
