How different do you think the world would be today if France had prevailed in owning central and South America?

Not hugely- South America certainly would be, though. France's big mistake in colonialism was limiting emigration to its Catholic population, who were richer and more socially accepted- and thus had much less desire to leave for somewhere else. You'd have a higher level of local presence in ethnicity, and probably culture, too.

South Americans would speak French and not that different after words. Sure there is a butterfly effect but I'm assuming they were as capable as the Spanish and Portuguese.

Does the French colony have any equivalents to Canada or Australia? Notable global power and fre from colony rule by diplomacy. Or maybe south America could have been the equivalents I'm asking for.
