I remember in the late 70s and early 80s when it seemed like everyone got offended by the least little thing. Little did we know how totally crazy the future would be. Even the most left thinking people back then could not imagine in their wildest dreams what we have today. If the far left back then could have seen into the future, I think they would have taken a big step back and realized what a slippery slope over-sensitivity really was.

Well first of all Tipper was a Democrat. I also would not call it insane. She didn't think music with explicit lyrics should be easily available for children. I agree. But to be honest, I don't remember that specifically. Although I do remember a lot of controversy about music, video games, etc. For that matter, the movie rating controversy goes back to the 60s if I remember right. If not the 60s, then the early 70s.

But yea, there are certainly some wackos on the right. But the modern left takes it to a whole new level. I do think some of the wackos on the right need to be stopped. I don't mind religious people being in politics, but the hard core fundamentalist types need to go.

Which brings up another thing. When it comes to religion, there is not nearly as much difference between the left and right as many people believe. Yes, there are more religious people on the right, but it's not as binary left-right as people think, not even close.

The problem with a two party system, forced by our constitution, is the primaries throw up extremists and then you have to general election extremists leaving the center unrepresented. One gets elected and then doubles down on extremism. Rinse. Repeat.

The two-party system has absolutely nothing to do with the Constitution. Nor does it have anything to do with extremism.

Nor does it have anything to do with the primary system. There is not even a requirement for the primary system. The primary system is entirely up to the parties and the states. Not all states even have primaries. Not too long ago, even more states did not have primaries.

Both major parties have changed their strategy in recent times. Not long ago the conventional wisdom was that to win the election, you had to go after the middle. It's only been recently that the parties have gone after their "core" on the far right and left - relying on voter turnout rather than going after the middle.

Keep in mind that the people who wrote the Constitution didn't even intend on the people voting for president. That puts the entire process and philosophy in a completely different light than how it's viewed today.
