How are you feeling about the UK General Election results?

I’m feeling optimistic.

I think things started going downhill when Brexit happened and exacerbated during Covid. So I feel quite relieved that we finally have a new government.

I also come from a working class background (lol) so it’s in my best interested that I support the Labour Party. Although I’m not entirely a believer in that not all parties are the same…

Reform voters aren't welcome? Why is it those on the left have such an issue with democracy and debate. The more you push it underground the more it will surface in insidious ways.

Of course, a Labour government is disastrous for the country. We'll have exactly the same policies as under the Tory party, a conservative party in name only, but on steroids. So we will have mass migration of 700k net a year. We will have a housing crisis due to said levels of migration. We will have towns and cities that continue to look more and more like third world hellholes. We will have immigrants who don't integrate and respect the culture. We will teach children to hate their own culture, to blame them for something that was nothing to do with them. We'll have more and more infringements on free speech, with the police only being hardline on twitter posts. There will continue to be no incentive to work, with women getting £1800 a month to pop out babies and sit on their arse. Big government spending, with 2.6 trillion of national debt, as big as the gdp. And the government forcing vaccines and lockdowns for vague flu pandemics that never were.

This country is finished. But hey, the people get the government they deserve.

Afterthoughts: apparently there were more than two parties ''running''. That must come as a shock to U. S. people... is it really possible that a country has more than just two opinions?

Yes, it is; and it's good that way.

I have concerns, though - a huge majority might become a little single sided. Opposition - a relevant one - is important, too.

From my feelings (as a born European) - I respect them/you as cultural/historical ''brothers & sisters'' (disregarding ''Brexit'')

I feel optimistic that the Parliament buildings will NOT be raided by the apparent losers.

Culture is culture :P

Anyhow - much more important to me is to remind everyone that no politician at all can be fully trusted.

2 gov running - yes that’s because everyone who has a seat in parliament effectively has a say. This is “democracy” (apparently). The second party won’t have as many seats as the winning one.

There were over 30 parties to vote for. Most of the vote is split between the 3 main parties. The winner usually only gets about 30% of the total meaning most people are against them.

Conservative policy has long been cut everything to the bone to fund tax cuts for the well off. As a result we've crumbling schools with cellings falling on kids, long NHS waiting lists, and a military that couldn't capture a small village. As for immigration, a big factor in the recent election, regardless who's in charge their hands are tied by international laws and we can't just shoot them like Reform suggested but I predict we'll see more fleeing France for obvious reasons.

Truth is change was long overdue. If you don't believe the other side should ever be in power then you don't believe in democracy.

I'm not British, I don't live in the United Kingdom but I'm happy with the results. The Labour Party will do a better job than the Conservative did. Hopefully the lives of those who live in the UK will improve in many ways.

Besides, since pretty much all European countries are turning right, it's great to see one that it's turning left.

Time will tell, Labour have a habit of buggering up the country and letting the far left have too much control, also the unions start to push for more control. Expect more strikes as everyone will expect a pay rise. If you look back from end of WW2 to the present, Labour have a fairly chequered past.
An important bit will be how they consider levelling up, house building must be a priority.

The other bit that people may over look is the % of votes versus the number of seats, that often shows how people are as a whole.

Your Independence Day does make any difference to us. It was to cause a distraction and hope that not many young voters who vote Labour would not turn up due to lost of other things going on. I'm feeling good about them, the fact that the right wing dared to ditch the tories despite all the "Labour will win" fearmongering is a fantastic sign. Yes reform got very little seats due to the terrible voting system you have, but they are the third largest party with vote share and did a stellar job in the circumstances they had to deal with.

So yes it will be tough for the country the coming years, but long term I think this is a big victory over a party that people weren't satisfied with. Any party that did lockdowns deserves to be forever destroyed.

I think what really drew the line for a lot of people is during the pandemic many had to lose their loved ones and weren’t allowed to see them for months. Meanwhile he was having parties with his government at number 10. He kept denying it and didn’t resign until a formal investigation was put it.
