If you would don a weapon in medieval warfare, which would it be?

I dont know how to fight with any weapons so the easiest and most effective to learn for a newbie is the spear. Also very cheap which is nice. Alternatively a crossbow but it would have to be one of the more advanced ones since I dont plan on engaging in heavy labor just to shoot a bolt every other minute.
Anything else is basically a niche weapon. Bows are nice and all but requires a lifetime to master and screws up your body with the insane strain. Swords are a good backup weapon but rarely work as a primary and things like maces are situationally good against armor. Axes are a complete meme.
If we are going for some more luxury options we could switch the spear out for some other polearm, especially with some additional armor. Something like a halberd or a bec de carbin that has more options and a partially reinforced shaft.
From the era? Halberd, most likely. With axe, spike, hook, AND quarterstaff potential, it's a real Swiss army polearm- quite literally, since it was the polearm of the Swiss army. And with both range AND versatility, I could bring my size to bear and probably have the best chance.
Probably a flail. They’re badass and if you know how to use it properly, I think they would be a fun weapon to take out enemies with.
it's what farmers used when pressed into war as they used them to flail wheat. No knight would use one
I'd be an archer since I'm weak 😂
Yeah I did archery in high school so I think it's a good choice for me lol.

Probably a bow weapon, crossbow, long bow or recurve
A major thing with weapons though is they are designed for use as part of a group of people and with supporting weapon and or defensive bits such as shields.
No bows are in the front
Stakes, arrows, bollox knives and other weapons such as axes and hammers.
Archers form the front behind pointed stakes.
Nope, Agincourt, Crecy etc you put your archers up front, they wore protection, carried various weapons including swords, daggers, mauls, spiked pole arms etc.
This is how warfare is different between countries and areas of the world.
My father was a WW2 veteran. He was part of a 3 man crew that fired this Browning Machine gun. It is a real museum piece. Way better that a crossbow.
Pick one:
Longbow: The English longbow was highly effective, particularly in battles such as Agincourt (1415). It had a long range and could penetrate armor, making it a formidable weapon against knights and infantry.
Sword: The sword was a versatile weapon used by knights and soldiers. Different types of swords were used throughout the medieval period, including the longsword, broadsword, and arming sword. Swords were effective in close combat and were symbols of status and skill.
Crossbow: The crossbow was a powerful ranged weapon that required less training than the longbow. It could penetrate armor and was easier to use, making it a favorite among mercenaries and infantry.
Polearms (e. g., halberd, pike): Polearms were effective in both offensive and defensive roles. They provided reach and leverage, making them useful for keeping enemies at a distance and unhorsing cavalry.
Mace and Warhammer: These blunt weapons were designed to inflict damage through armor. They were particularly effective against heavily armored opponents, as they could crush armor and cause serious injury through blunt force.
Dagger: While not as glamorous as other weapons, the dagger was a crucial backup weapon. It was used for close combat, finishing off wounded opponents, and could be easily concealed.
PERSONALLY, I would chose a Longbow or Crossbow.
my actual best are throwing knives... would bring those and of course, the daisho
and purely for the love it... I would happily die, if must, lol
the best choice is the codpiece of doom. In hand to hand combat, you close the distance and thrust against you opponent. The codpiece of doom breaks through either enemy codpieces, or whatever other armour they've got on their legs and stuff--leaving them exposed and vulnerable.
I want a flamberge with a propane tank backpack and piping outlets along the blade so it can be a true flaming sword.
Can't beat a good old fashioned pike.
Tis what we use in England.
Sword
One need to be killer with balls to actually fight with this one
Samurai sword, it's strong and flexible and extremely sharp.
Gotta love the crossbow!!!
katana and shurikens
Samurai sword long and short. Some mail gear too.
arming sword
