Democrats and the media either don't understand math, or they are intentionally lying. I'll show a simple example with rounded numbers that should be easy for people to understand/follow.

The price of a can of food is $1

Inflation for January is 10% making it $1.10

Inflation for February is 8%, making it $1.19

Inflation for March is 5%, making it $1.28

Inflation for April is 3%, making it $1.32

So the total price of that can of food has actually increased by 32% within 4 months, but the media and liberal politicians will try to deceive people and claim that inflation is down because the amount inflation INCREASES each month is less than the INCREASE the previous month.

Another example would be if someone spent $1,000 on their credit card one month, then spent $500 the next month on their credit card, then spent $200 the third month. If it was the government (this is how they lie about the debt by calling it deficit) they would claim it is decreasing, but in reality, there would now be $1,700 in credit card debt, which is MORE than the original amount.

Inflation is always reported on an annual basis. If inflation is reported as 5% for some months, that does not mean that prices went up 5% in that month.

@slatyb Inflation USED to be reported on an annual basis, but it changed during Biden's administration and is has been reported on a monthly basis so it isn't as obvious how bad it really is. There has been well over 100% inflation on fuel, food, etc. in the last 3 1/2 years. Can of food that were $0.98 before Biden took over are now $2.18 in the same stores. Totino's frozen pizza was $0.98 and now it is $2.19 Macaroni was $.049 and now it is $1.79 Gas was $2.00 per gallon for premium when Trump was last in where I lived and a year ago was $5.80 per gallon at the same station under Biden. Inflation is well over 100% within 3 1/2 years, so if they were actually still reporting it annually like they used to, they would be reporting inflation numbers of over 35% per year. We have the highest inflation numbers/rate since the great depression. That is why savings numbers have gone down sharply in the USA, and credit card debt has risen too.

Where is your data? Some things are more expensive, most are not. Gas is about the same as it was five years ago.

Inflation is not really dropping. Sort of. It temporarily spiked. We are past that spike with many products, but prices are still VERY high on a lot of staples.

There are several CPI's. All of them are some type of average. Average prices for individuals will be above or below the CPI, depending on how they spend their money.

But the question is not about actual prices. It's about politics, with BOTH sides saying whatever bullshit they think will promote their preferred agenda.

Politics aside, anyone who thinks that prices are down are out of their freaking mind.

I'll say this about the CPI. It's VERY difficult to find out exactly how the various CPI's are calculated, and whether your own personal CPI is above or below that. I just know that for me personally, my inflation rate is much higher than the official CPI-W, which is the one used for Social Security. That's because my own spending is not the same as the "basket of goods" used for CPI-W.

By the way, the W in CPI-W stands for 'worker', meaning it's calculated on how a working class person spends their money. It means someone working full time making higher than minimum wage, but still below average. This is the CPI used for Social Security and a lot of other things.

Inflation of 3% means prices have gone UP by 3%. Just because it was 9% a month ago doesn't mean prices went down.

This is what I forgot to say in mine. In the media they report it as 'inflation has gone down', but prices are still going up, but more slowly. This may be enough to fool the masses. What has happened, the decimation of one's savings and the purchasing power of one's wages has been permanently etched in. We're all a lot poorer, and it's actually offensive to hear otherwise from the political class and those with an agenda.

This is the argument that a lot of the political class in my country seem to be making, also. It's not like the prices we have 'eaten' in the past 3 years have gone down.

A house seems to cost around 50% more than in 2021. All the other prices, food etc, seems to be permanently etched in. Yes, great success from our governments. They must think we're really stupid (sadly, we pretty much are).

Just because the rate of inflation is slowing does not mean that prices are going down. Your saving s account is only worth 60% of what it was worth when Biden took office.

The fact is the US is getting oil from Venezuela through a special deal by the Biden administration. Once this ends the price of energy will skyrocket again driving prices up and we will again see double digit inflation. The only way to stop this is if the US produces it's own oil again.

@slatyb this is a left leaning organization that seems to just go with the Biden formula of calculating the CPI which is to hand pick items that have not increased very much. Items like energy and food staples are omitted because they are considered "too volatile".
I think that real people who eat, drive a car and use electricity are paying twice what this claims.

So 19+% over four years, mostly due to an increase in the oil price, other supply chain disruptions, and perhaps slightly due to the low unemployment rate, which drives wages and prices higher.

The Government inflation numbers have been largely made up for years just like goverment underemployment numbers which have been largely made up for most of the last 80 years.

Instead we measure inflation based upon what everything actually costs us.
