Trump says the people should have the say on abortion, so wh does the GOP oppose this?

Louisiana and Wisconsin's GOP controlled legislatures voted down efforts to put abortion on the ballot.

The GOP in Maine blocked a bill that would have let the voters decide on abortion.

The GOP Sec of State in Ark rejected petittions to put abortion on the ballot in AR.

The GOP in OH tried to make it harder to for citizens to get ballot initiatives passed statewide (not only did a majority of citizens have to approve, but a majority in five of eight US House districts). JD Vance supported that.

Not ONE single GOP led legislature plans to put abortion on the ballot in 2024. All abortion initiatives were either done by citizen petition or by democrat legislatures.

Because the feds have zero say below the State level in how the people conduct themselfs. When a federal politician says people they are automatically presumed to be referring to the people in their capacity as states.

I am against state referendums as a rule, and Constitutional amendments to be legitimate need broad support both popularly and regionally.

Theses systems are otherwise just bypassing the checks and Balances of the legislative process. A process designed to protect the rights of the minority such as the unborn.

This is because democracy is tyranny of 2 wolfs and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. When in fact a republic is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

And Donald Trump, far from the fascist his opponents label him as, is not only by far the most liberal GOP Presidential candidate of my lifetime, but actually adheres to the Constitution, which neither the mainstream Republicans NOR the Democrats do.

The new presidential candidate is out right lying when she says she will make abortion free for women... The courts made it clear it's a state thing.

State legislatures are elected by the people of their state. If what they are doing in their states is against their constituents interests, then people will vote in different representatives.

so why let the people vote on some issues, but not abortion?

What does the federal government have to do with people in their own states deciding what they want? Those people in those specific states elected their local representatives. The people of those states voted in elections for those representatives. The candidates with the most votes won. The people in those states can go to their representatives offices and have meetings with their representatives and lobby them. Many groups of people do. Their voice is heard by their local representation. As a result, those representatives make decision in government that reflect what they are hearing from their constituents. If they fail to represent their district accurately on important issues, then they will be sacked and new candidates will rise. So it would seem that outside special interest groups from other states that want to put specific ballot measures on the ballot don't represent the wishes of the people of those states. The people are telling them to mind their own business because the people of the state can run their own affairs without outside interference. Otherwise the people will elect new government if getting an abortion ballot measure approved is a priority.

You think there's no gerrymandering on the state level?

Why would it matter in this instance? If a political party has an unfair advantage over its rivals in one district due to gerrymandering, then they would lose the advantage in another district. If you are claiming in that state they can gerrymander every single district to their advantage, then you just admitted they have a numeric superiority, thus a popular vote would favor them. The outcome is the same.

The constitution reserves it to state legislation. The GOP has ideology but the only influence it has is in state legislatures. It is a social issue and the DP has equal say. So Trump is right.
