Why did Harris demand un-muted microphones at the upcoming debate?

You can find contest in the 2020 debate with Mike Pence. Harris wanted a food fight with him because she felt that would play into her hands, by playing to wine women oppressed by the "patriarchy". When Pence tried to respond to her, she applied the "I'm Speaking" strategy, a line she hoped to also use against Trump in the upcoming debate, if he interrupted her. It is likely she had even more planned.

It was also about her wanting to interrupt him. Harris wanted to get into a back-and-forth with Trump in which she could play The Good Prosecutor, by prodding him with yes and no questions to loaded, made up accusations; expecting he could not respond, again playing to the same oppressed wine women she used with Pence.

With the mikes staying muted, Harris can't set that up, and she's mad about it, as evidenced by her campaign's continued whining. Without that distraction as ammunition, Harris' team is freaking out. Harris might actually have to talk about her positions instead of being able to hide behind word games and salads for the media's cameras. Oh, the horror.

In case of "Whatabouts" from my contrarians, Trump was not the one threatening to not show up for the debate. That is fake news. The Trump campaign agreed to the rules early on and has never said they wouldn't show up if the mikes were unmuted. What they said was that the rules were set and shouldn't change. They stuck by that and won the argument.

Harris was and is desperately looking for some reason to not have to debate. Trump didn't take the bait, and now she's stuck with actually debating the issues. Maybe a sudden case of COVID?

Because it plays to an advantage if one uses it correctly to cut off the opponent in the middle of an attack or to deflect from the question.

Trump use it well to his advantage too as he wouldn't let Biden get a word in 4 years ago constantly cutting him off.
