@Telekinetic-Potato They are not ego maniacs, Trump is an ego maniac who sees this ‘strong men’ as leaders worshipped by their country seemingly like a God even for their atrocities. He wants to be that, he admires that. Dictators manipulate him with flattery. Does this sound like a man who will stand up against Putin, Xi, Kim Jung Un? North Korea didn’t stop their nuclear tests after Trump had that meeting, Putin wants Ukraine and Trump is happy to give it to them (appeasement which fueled the invasion of Europe in WWII, wouldn’t repeat that historical blunder), Iran gives missiles to Russia and China gives drones to Russia. There is no positive working with theses tyrannical bastards.

I believe that the mass majority of independents are voting for Trump and possibly a small portion of demokkkrats are also. They're just not willing to deal with the backlash if they say it out loud.
