In my locale, the homeless have to work at being homeless. Homeless people just don't want to spend a cent on anything other than drugs and get separation anxiety from their preferred dealer.

As a friend wittily said "It is so hot that all the homeless have gone home".

And they do go home when the weather is bad.

One local homeless gentleman took 60 contacts before he would accept housing from local gov't.

Don't think you will solve housing by throwing money at it. There will be some people for whom life has gone bad for. Help them get their life back together. Druggies won't.

Compulsion is the only thing that will work for druggies.

Who says China doesn't? China have cities that are completely empty.

The wealthy in America are buying up all the houses, deliberately creating a shortage to drive up rents, mortgages and house prices and people aren't making enough money to get by anymore as wages are too low. Kamala talks about helping first time buyers but if she was to give every new mortgage owner $50,000 towards their mortgage then house prices would rise by that much, and rents would go up to.

I guess China just sucks at math. In America the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) counted 653,104 homeless Americans in 2023. in 2015, China was reporting more than 3 million homeless people even though it is next to impossible to get accurate figures out of China. Most are considered state secrets.

What's even crazier about the China situation is that China builds so much tofu dreg to present the appearance of growth that there are enough "homes" on paper in China to house twice it's current population, but the buildings are so sketchy that no one can really live in them, thus you still have millions of homeless Chinese. Imagine if China just build quality buildings rather than garbage used to try to defraud investors. China wouldn't even have homelessness. But the con job is always a bigger concern for communist party than the people. The people are just meat for the grinder.

The US is a dumpster fire. They take notoriously bad care of their own people. Crime, crippling debts from Healthcare, education, living. They have more mass shootings than any other country. People go homeless over hospital bills.
The US being the land of the free and the American dream are a joke.

Many reasons:

Mental illness & drug and alcohol abuse play a big role.

If you see those homeless camps, you'll notice a lack of children and couples. They're almost all single people.

The gov can't force people to receive mental health treatment or substance abuse treatment, so they're on the streets as they can't hold jobs.

The reality is because there's no opportunities in China which is still a communist country. You get what you get and that's it.
People literally leave their entire lives behind and come to the USA for the opportunities. But when you arrive to a country with nothing you're homeless. That's why the US has more homeless people.

We don't have true economic data from China. The homelessness in the US and other developed countries is due to a failure to construct enough housing to meet demand. There are multiple reasons for that.
