Why is Kosovo (not) Serbia in your opinion?

Currently, approximately 101 states recognize Kosovo as an independent state, and approximately 93 do not.
Although most of the countries that recognize Kosovo are consolidated democracies and free countries (there are exceptions), those that do not recognize are dysfunctional or oppressive regimes or have problems with separatist movements.

However, some countries that do not recognize Kosovo argue that there should be a recognition agreement between both camps. Kosovo should obtain recognition from Serbia itself (an unlikely scenario).

Why do you agree or disagree with such an idea?

Serbia does recognize it as kosovo. But not independent, though as I read, it has a lot of autonomy.

Much of the world is disputed, like China vs Taiwan. If more UN members recognize it, I'd say it's a country. Though prob dependent on serbia in lots of ways

And very nice point of view, i really like and appreciate your opinion.
Me personally i stand with Serbia and i think is not fair for a country to be recognised while the authority from with the region want to separate agree to recognize it as independent.
So i really don't care that much for Kosovo, but i care more for Serbia and when they will recognise Kosovo, then i will as well.

It is probably bs how countries recognize each other. But its geopolitics. Like palestine and israel. France recognized palestine in order to quell the violence

The real issue here is that Kosovo is majority Albanian and there was a war in the 1990s when Serbia attempted to keep Kosovo in the fold by force. It makes no sense to force Kosovo back under Serb control.

Kosovo never belonged to the Albanian state.
So why should Serbia cede this region just because it is mostly inhabited by Albanians?
And when Yugoslavia broke up, the constitutional regions had the right to declare their independence, and Kosovo was not a constitutional region, but an autonomous component part of the Yugoslav constitutional state Serbia.

You’re splitting hairs over Kosovo’s previous status. Preventing further violence is paramount.

Please don't asume i'm from one of this countrys, because i'm not.
The separation in my opinion and from what the Serbs and Albanians say is because the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo want separation from Serbia and unification with Albania, and this is confirmed by both the Albanian and Serbian populations.
Even the Serbs accuse Albania of involvement in the internal affairs of Serbia/Kosovo at the time of the first war.
(this is what I know from the Albanian people and the Serbs)

If that’s the case, it’s different than 25 years ago. But we’re all familiar with the ethnic warfare from that time and that possibility should be prevented. Best way to do that is to separate Serbs and Albanians.

I kinde agree, but the Kosovo region is a historical region for the identity of Serb, there is where theyr history as a nation start to begin.

Yeah, but they left. And their main tie to it is really just losing a battle there in 1389.

They didn't left, albanian had been encourage to come and live there in order to suport Yugoslavia industrialization, especialy afther WW2.
And because they become majority in that autonom region they say "why not to declar as well independent like all the other republics?" (my opinion this sentance)

Uh, Albanians lived in the region before Serbs began moving in in (IIRC) the 7th century and have been a majority in Kosovo since Ottoman times.

Albanians had never rule over Kosovo region even as an native nation like Romania and Greek (the only 3 native nations in the Balkans).
The Ottomans suported more the albanians who converted to islam in that region, because Serb rader pay tax and stay christians. So Ottomans wanted nations to obey their culture and faith. That why Bosnia is in the same situation (majority muslim)

I can say i had more serbs friends then albanian and my life experience seems to be better with the serbians then albanians.
But even albanians agree they never had Kosovo, they claim that because there are albanian people that part should come to Albania. "Let Kosovo independent and they will unite with Albania".
Whitch personaly i think that very wrong.
