Should fentanyl abuse be legal and they should allow ads for it on tv?

A lot of americans seem to think, no matter what the effects on society as a whole are, their individual right to do something should never be reduced in any way. So why does this not apply to drugs too? Why are there no ads for cocaine on tv? I feel like the government is abusing their power and reducing peoples freedom here.

Let's change that. And if someone gets addicted too bad, they should have made better choices in their life. If a society isn't full of pitfalls that can ruin your life is it really worth living in at all?

Just like opiates are used in killing the pain of humans (and animals, but I want to make the sentence sound scary like their purpose is to kill humans) - cyanide is also used in certain steps of manufacturing, so it isn't banned, yet the masses are (not yet?) dumb enough to consume it. ﾠ

We should bring back fat shaming and force everyone to become a "gym rat". So that it's also normal to beat up losers for using drugs that aren't even banned. That's going to prevent more overdoses than simply making overdoses illegal. And killing is illegal either way, whether through fentanyl or other means, the only thing that changes with this law is self administering drugs in public, not like @sage2021's husband was poisoned by another, they could've just as easily used cyanide.

I think the government's restriction on most drugs adheres to this adage.

Fentanyl is not a drug to be taken lightly. Similar drugs are cocaine, heroin and other barbiturates such as oxycodone. Barbiturates are painkillers. They're not recreational drugs.

Marijuana is the only exception I can think of, and smoked it has similar problems to tobacco. However, there are edible versions that avoid the lung damage/cancer issue and versions that don't get a user high made for pain management.
And, pot is not particularly addictive, though all the research hasn't been done on the plant and its psychological effects.

No "drug abuse" of any kind should be legal for the simple fact that it's abuse. Incorrect, damaging overuse.

The government has an interest in not allowing citizens to abuse themselves via addictions that cost money and harm society. This includes alcoholism and other drug abuses.

Most drug abusers are suffering psychologically and use drugs to escape psychological pain. Again, the government has an investment in having healthy, functional citizens. Addicted gamblers, alcoholics and drug abusers are not healthy, functional citizens.

Often these people have multiple addictions, making their life situation even more precarious and are usually suffering mental illnesses too.

There is no reason to have ads or to allow legal use of drugs that impair mental and physical functionality and often lead to addiction. It makes no sense.

Why did you choose to give Fentanyl as an example?
CRC made Fentanyl and laced it in with other drug and medications that were sold in the internet - such as Adderall for people who have ADHD and Percocet (pain medication with acetaminophen in it). A popular website sold it to children and some adults.
According to Donald Trump when was campaigning said that this Fentanyl that the CRC made positions 310,000 Americans per year.

The love of my life was one of them. He was poisoned with Fentanyl and died suddenly on September 8th of last year.

@Daniela1982 Ok drugs seems to be on of the only areas where the personal freedom and personal responsibility crowd still favors some kind of government action. And to make it more obvious that I wasn't serious and just to make the point more strongly I chose the most extreme drug. I'm a firm stander for all drugs should be legal. It's not an issue if someone decides to take it and it has negative effects on themselves.
Also the government is already allowing smoking and drinking so why not other drugs? Regulate all of it, also regulating it means more of the money goes to Tax services than criminals who are involved in worse stuff along with decreasing risks of been laced.

Morphine and heroin should be legalized. Fentanyl shouldn't even exist in the medical field. Heroin is twice as potent as morphine; fentanyl is 100 times more potent than morphine. All three drugs act on your brain the exact same way; their only difference is potency. What is even scarier is that there are more potent versions of fentanyl that are manufactured. Carfentanyl is so powerful that if the toxicology lab I worked in tested for it we would have to have someone standing over the shoulder of whoever was working with it to immediately inject them with narcan incase they spilled it.

@NewWaves if drugs were legalized you would not have any reason at all not to buy them as prison or jail would no longer be a deterrent. Everyone would be stoned all the time. The only good it would do is put the Cartels out of business, or would it? They might still find a way to make money out of it. Our health insurance rates would also go way up as there would be so many people in emergency rooms with overdoses, because just like alcoholics, they just don't know when enough is enough.

You would have high air traffic controllers, doctors, nurses, cops, EMTs, school bus drivers, teachers, etc. because they have the right to take legal substances. Look how alcoholism went up after prohibition was repealed. And people are dying from it every day, and their victims, because the people can't control that freedom.

Unfortunately because of abuse of prescription drugs in the past. Doctors are afraid to prescribe prescription pain medications. Then people will go to any means to help relieve their suffering. Which in turn causes them to become addicted to illegal substances.
