Should I buy gold bullion to protect my retirement?

I heard that in these uncertain times gold bullion is the best way to protect my retirement.

It is a store of value in a way other assets aren't. Since it is popularly regarded as such, it more or less will be.

It might not be the best investment leading up to retirement. One of the reasons i like bitcoin is the price in a bear market to price in a bull market is quite a large ratio. I'm at least looking at 100+% gain over three years at this moment - far better than bank

It seems to me if I buy in a bear market and sell in the bull market it is pretty safe to make gains with bitcoin (though nothing is safe).

Same would go for stocks but disruptors can reap havoc. Many companies have been at the top then weren't. Kodak for example. Intel is currently betting the company. Maybe they win and maybe they don't. So I think bitcoin is safer.

Gold tends to negatively correlated with stocks. Gold goes up when stocks go down.

At your age you might not make much gains if you just buy gold though. The best thing you can do is to read and listen a lot

you can just as easily crash. But yes, I’m kicking myself for not going all in on bitcoin when it was down to about 16 K2 years ago

You should not consider buying now. Retail piles in near the top of the market and gets burnt. If you are sophisticated you buy and sell at intermediate points but I don't know enough yet in my own assessment of myself.

I will at least double my investment in this cycle so I am content.

I think this guy is good to learn from in case you are interested. He is professionally dispassionate whilst most others are promoters. Takes a while but you start getting it after you watch multiple episodes.

here’s the thing, though, I would’ve put in like every penny I could two years ago. Not now. I’m not that insane.
I would’ve cashed out seven figures and I could’ve just made safe investments and set myself up for life.

Well there is always the risk management side and being dispassionate is important. Retail gets wrecked because they fomo in and think it will never go down.

My bets are
1. People will continue to want bitcoin
2. Bull and bear markets will continue to occur in cycles

I am in a good financial position also but can do with growing my wealth somewhat plus it is fun. In your situation, i'd be very conservative with nearly all of it but seek growth in a small portion. Growth is compound so our age is the time to start. More null markets left

The thing is, I would’ve only been satisfied by making life-changing money. And I know if I just said screw it two years ago and put everything I couldn’t bitcoin and I cashed out even when it was in the 60s a few months ago to me that would’ve been enough money that I could’ve just put it in the stock market and I would’ve been set for life.

I think we are better doubling or trebling our money every 4 year cycle and that is doable. 10K would be 150K in three cycles. Not exactly life changing but a solid improvement. :)

owned it for the last 15 years... it's boring, doesn't pay a dividend. It's a pain in the rear if physical... gotta assay it, pay a premium to get, store it and secure it. It's not insurable most of the time. When selling, you will pay a fee and it's not as easy to sell, so timing is difficult. what about leaving to your estate... who knows about it and how to handle it.

Hasn't gone up that much... maybe doubled in value. if I'd bought stocks whould have been much more $.

seems to me bitcoin is doing better and more people interested in that.

Mutual hedge (like the saying hedge your bet.) Funds. Spread your investment so it covers thousands in different sectors. Also use a credit union compared to banks at least under the 2008 crisis credit union was more stable.

It should be part of your portfolio. I have a few thousand dollars in gold and have some silver as well.
