I would think governmental bureaucrats the world over would regard a compliant, mentally enfeebled elected leader who agreed with bureaucrat policies as a wet dream. Few of the upper echelons would want elected leaders interfering with their view of the world.

It is very naive to think bureaucrats do not have political views and don't steer the ship of state onto their course as and when they can. Ministers are meant to have the con but just how effectively can we expect them to supervise 1,000's of bureacrats? Big policy items sure but accomplishing changes will happen slowly. Every department chief wants a bigger department for aggrandizement. Turf defense goes down to a remarkable low level in bureaucracies.

A US politician said recently there are only 500 of us and there are 500,000's of them and it is hard to get them to do what we want. I see Trump has plans on that side. Best of good luck to him.

In our system periodically conservatives reduce public servant numbers and the next Left wing gov't goes on a hiring spree. Worse still they create higher positions so they all get paid more and they hire consultants. Consultants don't technically increase the numbers but it sure increases the wages bill.

It will be interesting to see what Doge can do. Maybe we will be able to copy.
