Jean Le Pen had very outspoken ideas about immigration, but in the end, he was himself a mere detail of history. He was never in a position to enter government. I think that at one point, he changed the name of his party.
Marine Le Pen, on the other had, received no less than 41.45% of the French votes in the 2022 elections. All other parties made sure they supported the other candidate during the second round of elections, where only the two parties with most votes can participate.
Even if on paper, Marine Le Pen's arguments seems weaker than her father's, she is in my opinion much more dangerous.

I noticed some leaders motivate others and others state reality as it is. If people spoke the truth about me, it wouldn't sound good (depending how they viewed me). If they spoke about my potential and direction, it's positive.
Realize... politicians talk to a lot of people, t hey say a lot. the sensational statements are the ones that stand out. Jesus, as recorded, spoke exceptionally well with forward thinking. Most humans, slip up... rather than thinking beyond the flawed human they state facts.

@Maybe_Maybe_not For devilment I have a couple of objections. Far right is usually linked to Nazi's but Hitler was a Marxist - he quite clearly said so. So was Mussolini. Lenin coined the term Fascist Socialist so even though he disliked them he recognized their socialist basis. Lenin castigated the Italian Communists for defrocking him.
So we should be talking about the Far Left for starters.
Now I don't particularly support mass murdering Jews though the Left in my country certainly seems to want to off them. Or any other cultural group that the Left currently dislikes.
However not feeling a need to kill people doesn't mean it is unreasonable to preserve my countries culture. I think the French are well entitled to expect immigrants to adopt French culture. Nor do I think a country seeking immigrants should not seek immigrants that will adapt most readily to the countries ethos. I would never accept the Left's open borders.

Also at times he commented that if not for making race the center piece of National Socialism it would be the same as international communism. He was certainly a socialist of some flavor because in 1933 constitutional protections for private property were removed so the state could just take it back.
The beauty of the Marxist framework is you can simply redefine the oppressed class. Subsitute women for the proletariat and you have feminism. Mao substituted peasants in. Late 1919 the German people seemed to start blaming Jews. Hitler obviously started to hate them just like Marx and Engels, so Hitler subsituted in the German people for the prolitariate. Mein Kampf was a sell job and covering his ass on the Bavarian Soviet.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter much other than knowing who the oppressed in crowd is. Left and Right is relative to a person. Chomsky has described Lenin as right wing.
Mussolini had a similar journey; he was an international communist editor of the Avanti newspaper. In WWI he could not but notice that Workers of World did not Unite and say hell no. Instead they piled into the trenches for their nations. He concluded that nationalism was a stronger force and so developed fascism which replaced the prolitariate with Italian Nationality. Still entirely socialist though.
Notice the absence of race in Fascism cw National Socialism which meant he could carry on fucking his Jewish mistress. No prob.
If Lenin was right wing then right wing doesn't mean much when the left says it. We should count our fingers after reading stuff on it.
What constitutes the core philosophy of leftism and rightism is studied and sorted out 24/7 by political science, there's nothing blurry in that department, we have definitions to rely on. When looking more closely, any policy/view/law refers to something classifiable in the political spectrum.
Considering all this data, all this analytical activity around the world, if one gets confused about left and right then it's only because, for some reason, one believes their own judgement matters more than knowledge.
@Maybe_Maybe_not It is not as scientific as you are suggesting. It is relative to a person or group (who may be academics). I know nothing of unions where you are but where I am they (and Left politics) are factioned. There even fractions i. e. sub factions of factions. Two ends are the Hard Right and Socialist Left as they choose to call themselves. It is significant how groups self badge but not necessarily how others seek to badge them.
It would be a poor mistake for you to presume the Hard Right is to right of you and the Social Left is to the Left of you because you perceive yourself as center. Both are unions and both might be equally inclined to use a destructive tactic of a stop work in the middle of a concrete pour. They are both unions. Lenin might well have been right wing in this sense.
Hitler killed 6 mill that is far right. He also removed the basis of private property and profit - lets agree that is extreme left. Lenin held the same positions though it seems his score was only 100K dead. On the circle or horseshoe they are both in about the same position of totalitarianism where Left/Right has no meaning.
What I mostly object to is political slurs because those people using them are either unthinking or want me to react emotionally without thought. I take both of those badly amiss and I would like to dissuade people from those tactics.
If instead you tell me Le Pen admitted to enjoying torturing and therefore should not hold the reigns of power then you are giving me a fact and asking me to make a value judgement. I can check the fact and ruminate the judgement and probably conclude the same.
There are two different perspectives used here, a political group might designate itself in terms of political orientation, it's an inside view, it has no significance outside due to partiality. This is where political science steps in, because it is science, it's fundamentally different than an inside opinion, as it comes from an external examination.
Where I am there are five bodies/factions, From the far-let (anarchists or communists, simplified) to the far-right (national-populism or white supremacism), the center, here, is an odd mix of left and right orientations trying to not appear politically rooted into anything where in fact it cannot escape the grid.
As for Le Pen, he was classified as far-right, such classification is not meant to be an insult, it's simply that, according to his takes and opinions, it puts him right into the far-right box, no matter how he, himself, expressed about his political orientation. There's an analytical grid to use, to evaluate anyone's speeches and stances on the spectrum.
I do consider the self-labeling as significant since if a Prime Minister hails from the Socialist Left he/she will try to hide that but will revert to form with a radical policy. Likely they won office with a large majority but go into minority government at the next election which will be the death of them at the third. The PM's faction is highly predictive.
I imagine Beyme is superceeded now but there would appear an interest in and more granularity with the Left and disinterest on the right. On the right there is just conservative parties and Far Right E. There is no Far Left Extremist classification yet you could reasonably claim communists are and a goodly %age of Socialists plus most of the Greens are.
It is fairly unconvincing though it might Left scientific.
He wasn't relevant for the party's program or elections for the last 15 years, because he and his daughter had quite the acrimonious split. I was surprised to hear he was still alive.

Trump is a moderate, he was a Democrat his whole life before he ran for president. He's never done anything far-right or even conservative. He's here to unify. It's the leftists who turned against him, they all loved him before he ran for president.
