Yes. I call what Trump did a complete abandonment of his duties.

First of all, we knew that we were due for a world wide pandemic based entirely on history and probability. We also speculated that it would be an influenza originating in China and previous presidents such as George W Bush made extensive preparations to both identify it as a national security threat and make preparations well in advance.

Turns out, it was not influenza but a coronavirus which is basically a cousin but honestly close enough and the preparations would have been very useful.. If Trump had not completely dismantled them during his presidency. He literally disbanded the pandemic response unit and fired all the CDC observers stationed in China whos job it was to detect things like a global pandemic appearing.

Trump literally had plans and even a fucking handbook on how to effectively fight a global pandemic originating in China. Trump completely fucking ignored all of that and allowed Covid19 to freely enter USA without any sort of opposition. Furthermore, Trump was the nominal leader of the GOP which means he should have rallied his base and politicians to fight against the pandemic. You know, show some leadership for once. Instead he took a "hands free" approach which allowed idiots like Ron Desantis to disobey CDC recommendations and it became the foundation for the whole stupid "Anti-vax" movement which has killed countless Americans and contributed to untold financial damages.

Trumps mishandling of Covid19 might unironically make him the person who has caused the most damage to USA than any other person in the nations history. The current US total deaths is at 1.1 million with 100 times more having caught covid19 and many suffering from permanent health damage as a result. Trump is easily responsible for a majority of that happening though his incompetence alone.

Most of the response was from the states. That's the way it should be. You are going on about stuff that would have made little to no difference. It was worldwide and very severe all over. Realistically there was very little that COULD have been done about it once it took hold.

But so what? There was a virus. The damage was not because of the virus. They virus was because of states with totally uncalled for over responses. It was the response that really fucked things up, and which we still have not recovered from. That was not on Trump.

And no, there are plenty of things that could have been done. Humanity have been fighting diseases for our entire history, it would be naive to think we have not figured out what strategies works and which dont by now. Things like vaccines are nice and all but they are simply luxuries. Pandemics should be stopped long before we ever need to develop medicine for it using things like quarantine measures.

When it comes to pandemics the costs to fighting it increase exponentially the worse the situation gets. Had Trump effectively responded then the cost of fighting covid19 would have been barely nothing and not impacted daily life at all. Allow the disease to enter the country and suddenly you require ever more desperate measures to try combat it. The high cost of the response you identified is a direct proof of Trumps failure to act early.

The problem is that not everyone agrees on how to respond, or even if we should respond.

For example you said the response was inadequate. I think it was TOO adequate. I think the shut-downs were a MAJOR over reaction that seriously fucked things up. Personally I think the ONLY response should have been to encourage people to self-quarantine when they were symptomatic. That's it.

Plus, I don't believe for a minute that a different response from Trump would have made any significant difference. If it was worse in this country than some other countries, that has nothing to do with Trump. There were other reasons for it. Plus, there is always a question of whether it really was worse. I'm not even close to being convinced that it was.

And no, the disorganized quarantine attempts did not work because people were not respecting them and they were not being done as a unified effort. If for example people quarantine at different times then that does nothing. Its either all or nothing. For example, had everyone in USA stayed home for 3 weeks or so then not only had covid19 been eradicated but pretty much every other disease transmitted disease as well.

You can look at the daily cases of covid19 if you want. Nowhere in there can you identify a case where the response was excessive, since nowhere in there was covid19 actually dying out.

And of course you say that having 600+ employed people for the sole purpose of protecting America from a pandemic would not do anything in the event of an actual pandemic.. because that makes sense. I also like your apparent support of Trumps handling of covid19 which was basically just ignoring it. Totally the best way of handling any problem you have in your life, just ignore it and hope it goes away.

For reference, Obama had brought down the price of oil from 139.51 in June of 2014 to 44.78 in January 2016.

Trump was not good for oil prices. That is just a fact. That said, because of Covid19 the price of oil dropped to 23.19 so maybe that is what you are thinking of? All you need to do is bring back a worldwide pandemic and you can get back low oil prices.

The reason producing more "for yourself" does not bring you lower fuel prices is twofold. First of all is that you are not producing for yourself. The oil produced in USA is shipped around the world to the highest bidder. If someone else pays more for oil then US corporations will sell their oil to them instead of Americans.

In other words USA would have to flood the market with new production of every country around the world for prices to go down. Which would not work because a collection of the largest oil producing nations in the world has created a group called OPEC. The groups purpose is to control the oil market which include maintain an artificially high price by limiting their own production to cause "scarcity". If USA began producing more then they would cut their own production to maintain the price they want and they are producing way more than USA does so its not a major issue for them to compensate for USAs increased production.

So yeah, as long as USA has a free market where it can export oil, it will never be able to control the price no matter how much oil is produced domestically.
