First, the premise is stupid. But that is what we can expect from Newsweek and people who do not understand money.

Very quickly, because I don’t have time for this crap, first too little has been attacked, too little time has elapsed to say anything yet, not enough time has gone by for the accumulation of savings, the debt interest is going to need to be paid and is the highest outlay which is all due to past spending that there is nothing that can be done about, the military spending hasn’t been touched… yet, but we are on the right track overall and moving at lightening speed for a company and certainly for a government.

Posting this question to me seems like a troll move and certainly a stupid assessment. Almost $200 Billion cut so far in 6 weeks. A big fuck you to people who would say it is a failure. Hundreds of billions more identified for savings as fraud is squeezed out. Biden, Obama, Clinton did nothing and now we have an earthquake of movement! This is all good. Come back in 4 years bitch and we will be in a much better position than the past 40 years! Dumb people don’t have money. You don’t have money.

Agreed the US debt is obscene. Not that Trump will do anything about it. He certainly didn’t the first time. Actually, he increased it more in four years than Obama did in eight. Fiscal responsibility on the right is a myth. Not just in the US, but in many countries…

No, he didn’t do much about it. As a matter of fact he had an impact ion increasing it himself. The big one was a corporate and individual tax cut. The cut was supposed to generate more income which it did but not enough. I think that is the reason for the tariffs this time. That will bring in more money and incentivize companies to move production, which means jobs, to the US.

Ross Perot predicted a “giant sucking sound” of jobs going to Mexico and elsewhere with that deal. He was right. This could undo some of that and maybe people could afford things again, including having kids and a home.

@beefcakebradybatson Yep, makes sense when Canada does not have a powerful military and has huge dairy tariffs among others. But their GDP per capita is lower as well. I was in Ontario late last year and saw some nice neighborhoods but those couldn’t have been average people’s homes. Home costs are very high and salaries low.

@beefcakebradybatson Right now no one here is boycotting Canada. If they do, you will have a problem as the US buys 75% of your exports. Now you are in a trade war with your biggest customer who is far bigger economically and can outlast you. Rough sledding ahead.

I'm glad to see democrats waking up that it is a problem and thus assume they will get more engaged in solving the problem. Tehir solution of taking billionaires... maybe... but whom is going to build the factories we need to re-establish maufacturing. there will have to be spending.

that is how it was done in the past. Career bureaucrats would be in charge and they would have committees and hearings and deliberations and at the end of it all nothing would be cut. Trump means to get this done and has a governemnt outsider running the show.

Not quite. I’m wondering how supporters justify it to themselves. Trump was elected in his first term on fiscal responsibility. However, his unfunded tax cuts resulted in record deficits and increased debt. Then COVID, so pass on that. But now, in his second term we’ve gone from record stock market performance and declining inflation to a likely recession, more record deficits, and increasing inflation. Accepted it’s only been shy of two months, but when should we expect to see any improvements? One year? Two? At this rate, those Congressional and Senate majorities are going to be gone in the mid-terms, and that’s with no real leadership at the moment on the Democrats’ side.
