No, I would not. I also do not think he is "likely to be the next mayor of NYC".
If the GOP fields a good candidate in the NYC Mayoral election, they will win. Their problem is finding a good candidate because MAGAts can't do well in NYC outside of Staten Island, and only maybe there. The good GOP candidates for NYC Mayor already were Mayor: Giuliani (pre-idiocy) and Bloomberg (a true RINO).
While former governor Andrew Cuomo lost the Dem Primary, GOP voters and independents don't get to vote in the Dem Primary in NY State.
So, assuming Cuomo runs as an independent, there is a good chance he will be elected NYC Mayor. This is because a lot of Republican voters in NYC are realistic and don't want a far left "Democratic Socialist", anti--Israeli (and maybe pro-9/11) Muslim, too young guy like Mamdami.
I might have supported his "Democratic Socialism" stance, but his anti-Israeli behavior and his youth and inexperience are two red flags. Personally, I wouldn't have voted for Cuomo either but I think I would prefer Cuomo over Mamdami. I don't know who the GOP will go with but, if they are smart, they will field a good, strong non-MAGA candidate if they want to win NYC. (They need a guy sort of like Chris Christie.)
If Preet Bharara wasn't a Democrat and was so inclined to run for NYC Mayor as a Republican, he'd have been a good candidate.
Put another way, NYers like "prosecutors" like US Attorneys or Attorney Generals who, if you think about it, are like superheroes; They represent "good" and try to stop "bad" or bring them to justice. Rudy Giuliani was a US Attorney in Manhattan and became NYC Mayor. Andrew Cuomo and Eliot Spitzer were both Attorney General of NY and became Governor of NY. Chris Christie was the US Attorney for New Jersey and became Governor of NJ.
Well, Preet Bharara was the US Attorney in Manhattan until he was relieved by Trump.
Manhattan US Attorneys get a lot of press in NYC so they have good name recognition and, furthermore, are usually well-liked by the people.
Anyway, the GOP has a chance here... For their sake,... and maybe the sake of the NYC metro area..., they need to get a good candidate. Just playing up Mamdami as new villainous face of the Democratic Party isn't going to help them much nationally nor in NYC.

Most of what he wants to do he does not have the authority. This guy will just grab with both hands while he is in office and then he will be yesterdays news.
If people thing that people are leaving new York in droves now, wait until this guy is in office. All the people with money will move out along with the few businesses that are left. This just leave welfare recipients and illegal aliens. I will make the popcorn
The real estate agents in New York are reporting that pending sales are being cancelled by the buyer. Gov DeSantis reports that some NY businesses are inquiring about relocating from Florida. As bad as the city has got in the last 4 years it will begetting much worse. It will become a cautionary tale for the rest of the country.
Well, since he does have his platform online I can actually provide some answers to the things you pointed out.
1: The rent freeze is in regards to around 2 million units built before 1974. They are a specific set of apartments that has already had rent freezes and special rights earlier so this will not be new or difficult to accomplish. What Mamndani wants to do is simply reverse the actions of the previous mayor and freeze the rents again as they were before.
2: The idea of making a city owned grocery comes from the fact that NYC is already subsidizing private grocery stores to a large degree and yet they do not perform the service that is expected of them. The plan is simply to move this funding away from subsidizing privately owned groceries and see if its possible for the city itself to buy products in bulk and distribute them as needed to local communities. Less of a grocery store, more of a warehouse with distribution points.
3: Mamdani wants the police to do police things. Stopping violent crime and such things while leaving social workers to do things like taking care of people who needs it. The police would still be expected to respond to riots with normal riot gear.
4: The deployment of the national guard to NYC's subway was just a political stunt. They are completely useless in that capacity since they can't lawfully act in law enforcement capacity. They are national guards, not police. They are not allowed to do things like arresting people without special circumstances or the suspension of law and order AKA martial law. This is doubly stupid considering NYC has experienced a drop in crime for years.
As for my thoughts about him? He sounds like a genuinely nice guy and he has ran a really good campaign. I would like to see him stick around for being both a good person with good ideas and for being a very effective politician who can run strong political campaigns.
I dont have any illusions that he will save the city or whatever. He does not have enough resources, time or power to do something that grandiose. I do think he will be a good mayor though and I look forward to him seeking higher office such as seeking office on a federal level.
Police should pretty much exclusively be dealing with violent crime. If someone needs help then that is the domain of social workers. I also dont see much point to police enforcing traffic laws and handing out parking fines.
If someone robs a bank then send in the police. If there is noise complaints or if there is calls of disturbance in a house then send in social workers.
I wouldn’t live in New York City. It’s run entirely by the lunatic left, just like that guy. They want to take over grocery stores because they’re tired of subsidized stores serving people who didn’t vote for them. Guaranteed republicans and independents will be forced to switch parties or risk starving to death. You can’t point to a case in human history when it went any other way. They will defund the police and criminalize firearms so that citizens have to rely entirely on the mercy of violent criminals and corrupt government officials. This too has failed miserably in literally every historical iteration. Controlling rent can and should be done ethically. It has been successful in the past, but there have been failures too. It depends on how extreme the regime in control is. I definitely wouldn’t trust the guy who wants to destroy or enslave everyone who didn’t vote for him.
