He was obviously a mental wreck because he hated himself for being gay. And Charlie was obviously against that. But shooting the messenger doesn't solve anything. Tyler knew he was forfeiting his own life when he cowardly killed Charlie's free speech, but he didn't care. It was all about his selfish needs, and other people didn't matter in his world.

But throughout all that chaos, he worried about what gramps would think about gifting him that prized 30.06 rifle. To me, that speaks volumes about his struggle. He knew right from wrong but chose the dark side. Now he will pay the price.

The letter he sent to his love interest kind of reminds me of Hinkley’s love letters to Jodie Foster.
There’s been some speculation that Robinson was involved with his roommate. Given the roommate’s willingness to give the authorities literally anything and everything during the investigation, i have the sneaking suspicion it was more of an unrequited love situation.

Homosexuality was once considered a mental illness. If someone feels that out of sorts because of their homosexuality, surely it would be best for them to go live somewhere they feel more comfortable being homosexual rather than developing hatred for others.
