So what this basically is, is a demand that all and any news regarding the area must first be handed over to Hegseth's department to be approved before being allowed to be published. Even if the information is public and you could access it from home with a normal browser.

Of course they can't accept this. It is basically asking them to sign away their free speech and only publish what is approved.
Even if they were okay giving up free speech, they would then have to wait for approval before every publication. Putting them at risk of beings days, possibly weeks, behind in their reporting.

So no. It is among the dumbest things I have seen today.
