Why do people keep saying 5’5 is average for a woman? I thought it was 5’3 and 5’4?

As a 5’9 woman people say I’m very tall and 5’9 starts for a tall woman. I got told I’m huge, big and very tall. I got told “Goddamn you’re tall! I’m only 5’1”.
5’5 is an inch taller than the average height of a woman. My dad said, “There’s more women that are 5’5 than 5’9 so yes 5’5 is AVERAGE. You are TALL. Just embrace it. That’s why I keep calling you TALL to stop making yourself look smaller.”
My dad ALWAYS reminds me how tall I am and there’s nothing little about me. The men in my family always makes a big deal how tall I am.
My friend is 5’5” healthy weight, and nobody says anything to her. She’s tall when she wears heels but men flirt with her but not with my 5’9” big ass.

People need to stop acting like 5’9 is HUGE for a woman. People saying 5’7-5’8 isn’t tall for a woman. YES IT IS.

Because people reference different stats based on location. Could be that worldwide 5’4 is average and locally 5’5 is average. You are what God made you, so why worry about it?

It varies from place to place. 5-9 is taller than average, but it's not huge. I'm 5-8 and would have no problem dating a woman an inch taller.

Maybe they're going by European or American heights? Anglo countries tend to have physically larger people than the rest of the world.
