What a shame. All of MAGA had their hands out for taxpayer money from orange daddy. Now they'll get none.

You dont think people are entitled to legal representation?
Even gang rapists in Europe get that.

@Just_Ken Donald Trump dropped his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over leaked tax returns in exchange for the creation of a $1.8 billion fund by the Justice Department to settle claims of alleged government overreach. This settlement effectively blocks any pending tax audits of Trump and his family.

You don't seem to follow these news very well. This has nothing to do with the right to or legal representation itself.

A slush fund is an unregulated pool of money or a cash reserve set aside without a designated purpose, frequently kept off the books or hidden from public view for unethical, dishonest, or illegal activities. While the term holds a heavily negative connotation in politics and business today, it can also refer to completely legal, miscellaneous corporate expense funds or discretionary financial reserves.

Not a slush fund, more like a fund for political prisoners or Conservatives targeted unfairly by federal government agencies, democrat controlled state and local authorities.

What's it for? Taking Japanese bankers to a strip club or legal matters.

Depending on your specific need, legal fund" can refer to government legal aid, crowd-sourced community funds for legal defense, litigation funding for commercial claims, or grants for charities.

This is the result of a compromise. Trump drops the IRS lawsuit, so he gets a slush fund with the condition that no one can examine any tax returns before this year.

Well, if the IRS did something wrong, then let's see his tax returns so we can see the error. You do realize that he broke the long, long tradition of Presidents sharing their tax returns. I wonder what he's hiding? Hmmm? The IRS didn't "agree to leave him alone." He weaponized the DOJ to strangle the IRS to protect himself and his family. From Day 1, he has acted as if the DOJ is his personal law firm. This is clear behavior of corrupt and authoritarian leaders.

Agencies of the federal government aren't supposed to target citizens over politics.
Now you said they leaked his tax returns, so youve already seen the tax returns.
End of the day citizens are entitled to privacy and not being harassed by federal agents with biased political agendas.
The DOJ had previously been weaponised to target Trump and other conservatives and the IRS had already had issues of them targeting conservatives using audits and investigations as tools of harassment and leaving many in financial ruin. That kind of corruption was a major reason Trump was elected both times, people hate when governments do that.

I didn't say they "leaked his tax returns." You just did. Stop evading. Are you saying that the taxpayers should be on the hook for $10 billion dollars because of an alleged leak? Is this part of DOGE to cut costs and make the government efficient, or does he just want to enrich himself and his friends? Why won't Trump follow the tradition of Presidents voluntarily releasing their tax returns? Trump was elected because he is a master con artist, and stupid MAGATS will follow him off a cliff... no matter how many promises he breaks. He can distract idiots with UFC fights at the WH. Remember during his first campaign when he said he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and get away with it? He was correct. His approval ratings are in the toilet, and the economy is tanking with high fuel costs exacerbated by an unnecessary war. He's more concerned about his ballroom, statues and arches erected in his honor, and his face on a $250 bill (you don't get that honor until you're dead). Corruption you say? The slush fund has corruption written all over it. Even hard core right wing legislators don't want anything to do with it. Trump has targeted comedy, media outlets, private law firms, colleges and universities... and the list keeps growing. He's a thin skinned egomaniac who can't handle any criticism. He likes to dish it out, but can't take it... just like a typical spoiled rich kid who has never had his ass kicked before. He has been taught that accountability isn't necessary if you pay enough lawyers. He learned that from his dad and Roy Cohn.

Absolutely the IRS should be, if there's no consequences theyd keep on harrassing people over politics. Federal agencies are not supposed to be paramilitary wings of the Democrat party.
Nothing wrong with a new ballroom, its been on the books since JFK was president
