Why did America celebrate independence day yesterday when the conflict didn't end until 1783 when the French saved them?

The signing of the treason sheet did not create a new country. That came about later when Britain decided it needed to divert resources to other parts of the empire and the Americas weren't worth the effort.

So why do Americans celebrate the 4th and not the end of the disagreement?

The conflict’s ultimate resolution was a foregone conclusion at that point. That’s why they authored the Declaration of Independence. Obviously England and the colonies saw it differently, and word traveled much more slowly in those days. In hindsight, we could celebrate our independence beginning from arguably the most famous of early revolts, the “Boston Tea Party”.
The most fun part of the story is the fact that if England had maintained their de facto policy of “salutary neglect”, we might still be a British Commonwealth. They overreached financially and tried to tap into American colony earnings with zero investment in the resources. The enemies they made around Europe became colony allies, without whom England might well have recaptured the colonies. They set themselves up for failure! 😂😂😂
But wait… there’s more!
If the US had learned from England’s mistakes, they might not have invested so heavily in military interventionism and put themselves in the precarious political and economic position they’re in now. Naturally, this also makes hypocrites of Brits who criticize the US. We aren’t doing anything y’all haven’t done.

The Declaration of Independence was actually signed by the members of the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776, but wasn't announced to the public until 2 days later, on July 4, 1776, after enough copies were printed so they could be posted around the colonies.

Simple put, it makes sense to celebrate the most important date, not when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown.

The French do a similar thing, celebrating 14 July as their independence day because it's the day the Bastille was stormed, even though the French Resolution went on for several years after that.

And in return, we saved the French in WWII as their Maginot Line failed miserably at stopping the Germans.

While Congress actually voted in favor of declaring independence on July 2nd, July 4th is recognized as Independence Day because it is the date the final wording of the Declaration was formally approved by the Continental Congress and officially said fuck you to the British monarchy.

After that, the revolutionaries were fully committed and it was a matter of "sticking to their guns", so to speak.
Maybe that's why the British government is so opposed to an armed citizenry. LOL

I think you and I should celebrate the 30th January because that was the day Charles I head was cut off and 23rd December when the last sniveling Stuart, James II, fled England.

But are they the best dates to choose? 4th of January makes sense too cause that was when Charles I lead storm troopers into Parliament. 11th April makes sense because that was when William and Mary were crowned ending the absolutist Stuart line.

Kinda the point is there is a number of dates that could be chosen to celebrate Parliamentary Supremacy. I would pick Jan 30th because cutting of a head is more iconic and allows for good re-enactments.

It is generally regarded that the Revolutionary War began with the Battle of Lexington and Concord in April 19,1775 which is now known as Patriots day. A year later the Declaration of Independence was signed as a formal notice to the British that the United States was no longer under British rule.

July 4th 1776 was when we formally adopter the Declaration of Independence. That’s when we told great Britain to go pound sand.
As for France helping us out they sure did. And it was greatly appreciated. We Americans did repay the favor in WWII when France was taken over by Germany.

It's actually a great question that has a serious answer.

Independence day is less about when we got our freedom and more about people coming together and deciding to work together for a future they wanted to fight for.

American culture values the reason why you do something or the emotion/resolve going into it more than the final output. Because what our country proves is that capability starts from simply deciding you're gonna do something.

For the colonies, they received little help until they defeated the British at Saratoga, and proved to European powers the war could be won. That ushered in the French and Spanish.
