Why are girls generally point their feet inwards while standing?

I always see in pictures of girlfriends in Facebook, random pictures of girls and even girls in real life point their feet inwards.

Plus I noticed they're doing it even while sitting so it's not like a pose for pictures to appear in Facebook. It's driving me nuts because I want to know why girls just can't stand normal with the feet pointing out (automatically of course, not intentionally).

I don't know if that's a confidence thing. Even the toughest military girls I met have this 'syndrome'.

They may be pigeon toed, in which case that's the position their feet naturally take.

It's also seen as an "optical illusion" to make the legs look skinnier by turning the curves of the calves and thighs inward.

A lot of the time it's how young girls are drawn in cartoons link , and posing like that evokes innocence.

There's also the fact that standing with pin-straight legs often looks awkward in photos (thanks to the knees) and almost every photo of a group of girls standing together will look something like this link , with one leg bent slightly in and the foot pointing slightly inward. I began posing like this when I realized it makes the legs look less awkward in photos. It also makes the hips look more curvy and the waist smaller, giving the illusion of the much desired hourglass figure.

In some cases, they're doing it to try to get a thigh gap. Apparently the thigh gap makes them look thinner. It's dumb.

In other cases, they're physically deformed (not kidding). It's called pigeon toes.

In the cases above, I think they're just doing it because they think it's cute. It's also dumb.

They are either naturally pigeon toed (like me) or they are trying to look cute somehow. Although, most girls I've met are duck footed (the opposite, with feet pointing out). If you've been noticing like every girl posing with her feet pointed in, then most of them are probably faking it.

Pigeon Toes. It is actually a physical deformity, but some people ( especially) girls think that it is cute to do the pigeon pose. It is sad. It is like people who force a bow legged look or do the "duck face". It seems like people just can't stand NATURALLY. Too many optical illusion gimmicks

Well I do it because I'm friggin pigeon toed and its physically uncomfortable if I force my feet to point straight or slightly out. I don't know why anyone else would do it...I always got teased about it growing up.

in japan it's always been considered to be very feminine and graceful to stand and walk with feet pointing inwards. geishas are trained to walk like that, it's one of the first things they learn.

Well I do it cause for some reason it feels natural, its sort of automatic and I don't realize I'm doing it. Haven't noticed many other girls do it either. But I guess it's either for the same reason as me, or to look cute and innocent like if you look at some cartoons they have girls point their feet inwards. But yeah its strange XD

Feet are a VERY expressive form of body language, that stance is an insecurity thing. I would bet, too, most of those girls don't stand that way if there isn't a camera pointed at them. If people are doing that it shows that they are anxious (think how kids sit when they're in trouble, usually toes are pointed in).

It makes them look more innocent, and/or they are pigeon toed.. I myself am pigeon toed and I have to concentrate really hard to walk "properly."

I just tried it and it's so uncomfortable and awkward looking. My feet are always pointed out.

Yeah? And you never even catch yourself doing it unknowingly? Personally it feels weird to me as well. Even when I feel my feet "collapse" like that and I look down the feet never go further than being parallel. I guess it's just not in our "systems" but in some people it is (mostly girls).

To make their legs look thinner so it appears like they have a "thigh gap". I have a thigh gap naturally but I still stand that way without trying to or thinking about it.

Because they look thinner that way. And that's what you see in every fashion picture for catalogs, etc. Tee-hee I'm so slender and cute... Look at my feet!
