Can I be tracked through my IP address on Reddit?

I posted a question to reddit. I didn't think it was controversial, but a lot of guys started getting insulting (the question itself is beside the point). One commenter began to defend my question, and the attacker began saying nastily that "I got your IP address I can find you". I reported the comment and immediately deleted my account once I discovered IP addresses are easily discovered on Reddit. I know it seems soo paranoid to be concerned an internet troll is going to hunt down some innocent commenter, but you just never know with this world... so how easily is it to be tracked via Reddit?

Most people wouldn't know what to do with your IP address even if they were capable enough to get it. I really wouldn't worry about it too much. He was probably just trying to scare you. I'm pretty curious to know what you said to make people that angry though lol.

Honestly... it was titled "could you get over my sexual past enough to date me?" underneath I went on to describe how I've only slept with three guys total. But a couple times when I was drunk I was forced to give bjs. I do mean forced. I said no, tried to get away, but was too inebriated to move fast enough. When the same guy tried to force me later when i was sober, i put my foot down and he beat and raped me. That's why I don't drink anymore. The commented said "you're a fucking liar. No one can force you to do shit" and proceeded to call me a whore etc etc. If you agree with commented, pls don't say so. I've had enough for one night haha...

Also explained that I've been in therapy for two years since and take care of myself etc etc

Oh shit. I did not expect anything like that. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. And no, I'm not on his side. I would like track him down via his IP address and mess with him, and I'd also like to beat the piss out of the guy that did that to you.

For what it's worth, none of this stuff would prevent me from wanting to date you. It's a messed up situation that was out of your control and it's not your fault. Best of luck to you.

Thank you random citizen :) the post got way to out of hand. But I wanted to give reddit a try since GAG leans waay more towards conservatives. I once posted a q on here from an old account just about sex in general and I got lectured on how I'm going to hell by not saving myself... Lol...

It was most likely a false threat...
IP addresses aren't that difficult to figure out but on the other hand most people wouldn't be able to do much at all with it. I wouldn't worry.

He was probably lying. I dont think normal users can access IP's like that. I was a moderator on another site before, and as a mod we could see IP's since we had the power to kick people off the site. I wouldn't worry about it

Only a select few can even make use of an IP address...they would have to hack the internet service provider to pinpoint where you are.

Most can only trace your location as close as the county (aka group of cities) you live in anyways! :-P

my ip provides free lookup tool to check location of your IP Address. Data is gathered through several GEO IP data providers. Just enter an IP and check location
